Harry Potter fans have the best surprise in store for them, as Tom Felton is reprising his iconic role of Draco Malfoy, as seen in the eight-film HBO franchise. But wait, he isn't coming back to our screens as the sassy Draco, but to the stage. The Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Broadway play has an exciting new addition to its cast.
Tom Felton, who played the young Draco in the HBO film series from 2001 to 2011, is stepping back in, but this time as an adult Draco Malfoy. Here's everything we know.
Tom Felton from Harry Potter reprises the role of Draco Malfoy in The Cursed Child Broadway sequel
Tom Felton is making his Broadway debut, and that too with a heartwarming project. Felton, who played the young Draco Malfoy of Slytherin in the HBO Harry Potter films, is reprising his iconic role for a grown-up version of Draco in the Tony-winning sequel play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
According to his announcement on the Today show on June 5, 2025, which also happens to be Draco Malfoy's birthday in the Wizarding World, Tom Felton will reportedly be joining the Broadway production at the Lyric Theatre in New York City. He'll be replacing Aaron Bartz, who currently plays Draco, for a temporary 17-week limited engagement running from November 11, 2025, until March 22, 2026.
What's even more special for the fans of the Wizarding World is that this marks Felton's first appearance on Broadway.
The 37-year-old actor shared his emotions on the Today show:
"Itβs very much a pinch-me situation, I keep thinking Iβm dreaming. I let go of that character 16 years ago, and now I get to step back into his shoes β as a father, this time, in a new story."
The last time we saw Tom as Draco was in the final instalment of the film franchise, when he was dropping off his son, Scorpius Malfoy, at the King's Cross Station, just as the trio were dropping off their children. Now, after 16 long years, we get to see Tom Felton's Draco take up the role of a father. This might just be the most exciting news that fans of the original HBO films could've received.
"Being a part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Joining this production will be a full-circle moment for me, because when I begin performances in Cursed Child this fall, I'll also be the exact age Draco is in the play. It's surreal to be stepping back into his shoes -- and, of course, his iconic platinum blond hair -- and I am thrilled to be able to see his story through and to share it with the greatest fan community in the world. I look forward to joining this incredible company and being a part of the Broadway community."
This news is just as surreal to the Potterheads as it is to Felton himself. Fall 2025 cannot come fast enough for us to witness Draco's iconic platinum blond hair, but this time as an aged and mature version of himself, facing the challenges that come with parenthood and legacy.
