After graduating from Dr. Phillips High School, she enrolled in Florida State University to pursue a degree in Bachelor of Music. Not just acting, Cox also had a knack for dancing and theatre. She was a part of Michael Jackson's concert series, This Is It. Cox then went on to bag several projects, including 90210, Undercovers, Chicago Med, I Kissed a Vampire, The Squeeze, and The Rookie. Written by Tamara Bass, this American drama film initially premiered at the 2019 American Black Film Festival. It stars Mekia Cox, Megan Holder, Tamara Bass, and Meagan Good. Almost two years later, in 2021, it was released in the theatres and received a mixed response.

The film is based on four high school friends who are forced to reunite when one of them suffers a crisis. Mekia Cox plays Suzanne, one of the four friends, while her teenage version is played by Amanda Mayfield

The series follows the professional and personal lives of the medical professionals of the fictional Gaffney Chicago Medical Centre. Mekia Cox plays Dr. Robin Charles, the eldest daughter of Dr. Daniel Charles.
