Top Chef Season 22 Episode 9, titled, Cooking on the Edge, featured the remaining seven participants, aka The Magnificent 7. They were supposed to follow the episode's theme, which was Mission: Impossible. The cheftestants were also given a stunt which offered an advantage to the winning participants. It featured the guest judge, Greg Tarzan Davis from Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One and Part Two.

The first Quickfire Challenge featured guest judge Ilona Daniel, where chefs were supposed to prepare a mussel dish in under 20 minutes. For that, they were given special mussels from Prince Edward Island, aka Canada's Food Island.

While Lana, Tristen, Shuai, and Vinny topped the challenge, Lana won. She prepared an Italian mussel toast which had garlic mussel juice aioli, mustard, olives, coppa and capers. It resulted in her winning $10,000.

For the elimination challenge, there was a task called Edge Walk, which was to be carried out at an altitude of 1200 feet. All cheftestants, apart from Lana and Massimo, did it and won 30 minutes extra time for the challenge, along with an additional $75 for shopping.

For the task, cheftestants were instructed to do something "dramatic, difficult, and unusual." The Top Chefs for the challenge were Tristen, Massimo, and Bailey, and Massimo won. The bottom four chefs were Vinny, Lana, Shuai, and César.

Judges tasted César Murillo's Arctic char tartare with turmeric custard, romaine lettuce jam, and fish tuile.

"The fish was handled really nicely, presentation was great, but it needed some acidity to cut through that sweetness," said the guest judge Buddha Lo.

While Gail said her dish was "inconsistently cooked," Tom said his was "somewhat burnt." As a result, César Murillo was sent home from Top Chef Season 22 Episode 9.

After his elimination, the show had six remaining chefs, which included:

  • Tristen Epps from Virginia Beach, Virginia,
  • Vinny Loseto from Massapequa, New York,
  • Lana Lagomarsini from The Bronx, New York,
  • Massimo Piedimonte from Montreal, Quebec,
  • Bailey Sullivan from Chicago, Illinois,
  • Shuai Wang from Queens, New York.

The remaining six cheftestants will be featured in the upcoming Top Chef Season 22 Episode 10. They would compete against each other to secure their spot for the competition's next phase.

Bravo will air Top Chef Season 22 Episode 10 on May 15, 2025, at 9 p.m. ET. Until then, fans can catch all the action from the ninth episode, streaming on the platform.
