Tracker Season 2 ended with a breakthrough, finally revealing who killed Coulter's father and lifting the curtain on the long-teased Ashton Shaw mystery. As the show moves into Season 3, there’s a wealth of narrative potential waiting to be unlocked—if the writers choose to dig deeper, the reasons behind the murder are still not known.
However, to truly elevate the storytelling and maximize the revealed narrative, here are three things Tracker Season 3 must keep in mind and improve upon.

Tracker should do these three things differently for its season 3
Tracker has relied on a slow build-up in the first two seasons. We witness the murder of Ashton Shaw, and with this event, the show finally gains some momentum. However, the real drama lies in the possible reasons behind his murder. Season 2 confirms that Otto Waldron is responsible for the killing, but his claim that Mary Shaw "asked for his help" and that this led him to kill sounds ambiguous. Here are three things Tracker season 3 must follow to avoid viewer fatigue and keep them thrilled.
Fully Commit to the Ashton Shaw Mystery
Mary Shaw's position warrants questioning. Was she complicit, or is there more to the story? Season 3 should prioritize this arc as the season's central theme, rather than a subplot, since the main drama revolves around the incident. The stakes are personal, and the mystery will deepen Coulter's character more than any weekly case.
Instead of relegating the mystery to a few scattered episodes, Season 3 should center this storyline within the narrative, allowing its emotional and moral complexity to fully unfold. This should not be viewed as just another mystery to be solved; it is the emotional backbone of Coulter’s journey.
Bring Coulter’s Family Back Into the Fold
Season 2 offered brief insights into Coulter’s family, which is insufficient moving ahead. Mary Shaw needs a larger role following her connection to Ashton's death. Regardless of her guilt or innocence, her presence will add emotional depth and compel Coulter to confront hidden truths.
Similarly, Dory, an intriguing yet underutilized character, deserves more development. As for Russell, he simply needs more screen time. Coulter and Russell share a compelling dynamic, particularly due to the on-screen chemistry between Justin Hartley and Jensen Ackles. Therefore, in season 3, Tracker should capitalize on that energy.

Avoid showing serial killers or dead bodies
Coulter will face danger, serial killers, and dead bodies — that’s part of his job. However, Season 2 delved deeply into dark, violent territory, especially in the second half. Murders peaked, gore intensified, and the atmosphere became increasingly grim. Season 3 should offer a breather from this, and the show doesn't need to reiterate it.
Season 1 achieved better tonal balance with a mix of high-stakes and lighter, character-driven cases like the missing thoroughbred racehorse. Season 3 could benefit from increased levity and variety in case structure to keep the show fresh and emotionally resonant.
It's high time for Tracker to step into the spotlight. The characters' journey has reached a crucial point in the show. However, despite the charismatic cast and emotional mystery at play, season 3 needs to tighten the narrative and balance its tone while allowing key characters the space they deserve.
