Tracker Season 3 Episode 5 was titled 'The Old Ways' and aired on CBS on November 16. The episode saw Colter Shaw deep diving into the depths of a dangerous hiking trail and coming face-to-face with an illegal community, in search of four missing teenagers.

The latest episode of Tracker Season 3 started with four teenagers on a hiking trail. While Jayden wanted to stop and return because of his sister, Sara's asthma medicine, Sara wanted to continue down the path and finish their trip. It looks like Sara should have listened to Jayden. Soon, the teenagers had gone missing and a Search and Rescue team was on the mission.

Since the hiking trail was dangerous, Jayden and Sara's parents also hired Colter, the expert tracker, to find their children. Was Colter successful?

Here is what went down in Tracker Season 3 Episode 5.

Tracker Season 3 Episode 5 recap: A hiking gone wrong

Tracker Season 3 Episode 5 begins with Colter talking with two of the teenagers' (Jayden and Sara) parents. They told him how the kids were upset that their family was moving to Hong Kong after their mother's promotion and wanted to go on one last hike. While Jayden and the other kids are experienced with the trail, Sara is an amateur and also has asthma. Colter meets with Luke Parsons, the head of the Search and Rescue. Since the trail is not too difficult, Colter feels that the children were going to a different spot, unbeknownst to their parents.

A quick deep dive by Randy into Jayden and Sara's socials confirms that Colter's suspicions were right. Since Sara was obsessed with urban legends, she was researching an old train robbery involving $100,000 in coins. As the legend goes, the treasure is still buried in the Santa Cruz mountains and the children were after it. However, that part of the trail is dangerous and also closed as it's prone to landslides. While following that trail, Colter and Luke find one of the four kids, Charlie, wounded but alive.

Tracker Season 3 Episode 5 recap: Colter meets an unfriendly group

Charlie informs Colter and Luke how he fell and hurt his leg and the others have gone to get help. After he points in their direction, Colter's search in Tracker Season 3 Episode 5 gets hopeful. While Luke maintains that the path is dangerous, as there is an illegal and unfriendly community, Colter ignores his advice and continues on the dangerous path alone. On that trail, he finds Jayden's phone and learns that he was using a shady socials app to chat with somebody secretly. However, he is not able to get any more information because the area is off the grid and he calls Randy to the rescue.

While Randy works to get information on Jayden's mysterious contact, Colter comes face-to-face with the illegal community of growers. He sees rows of dr*gs and aggressive men who threaten to kill him. Colter assures them that he is not a cop and just wants their help in tracking down three missing teenagers. One of the young men, Kenny, tells Colter that he saw a man taking three teenage hikers into the bushes. He wore a camo suit and also stole Kenny's father's truck.

Tracker Season 3 Episode 5 recap: Was Colter able to save the children?

Thanks to Randy's help, Colter reaches an abandoned cabin and sees a computer with Jayden's messages. It looks like Jayden was secretly in touch with his biological father, Richard. As Jayden's mother tells Reenie, Richard was a part of a group of radical activists who were skeptical about modern technology and medicine. They did not believe in urbanization and believed in living off the land.

Elsewhere in the latest episode of Tracker Season 3, we see Richard with the three kids, forcing them to embrace the harshness of life. Sara is clearly in bad shape and needs her inhaler. Jayden asks his father to stop but they continue. Colter and Luke soon discover Richard's camp and are relieved to see the kids alive. Colter asks Richard to let the kids go to their home but he maintains that he wants to gift a technology-free life to his children. Since Richard believes that his children are better off in the wild, he took them from the trail.

However, Colter asks Richard to let his children go and in exchange, he will not report him to the authorities. Reluctantly, Richard agrees and Jayden and Sara safely return to their mother and stepfather. In the final moments of Tracker Season 3 Episode 5, Jayden's mother expresses her regret for not talking about Richard to her children and Colter agrees. From experience, he can tell that children deserve to know the truth about their parents.
