According to an exclusive report by Deadline, Netflix has won the bidding war for Trigger Point, an action crime drama series created and written by Harrison Query (Unspeakable: The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey). Australian actor Joel Edgerton (Dark Matter) will lead this eight-part series as a Special Forces operator who now sells his skills to the criminal underworld.Trigger Point will be directed by Emmy-winning (for Rebel Ridge) director Jeremy Saulnier and produced by Joe Hipps (Ozark). Edgerton will play the lead ex-Tier One Operator-turned-criminal, who now sells his skills in the Black market.The synopsis suggests that the project will feature a high-stakes and intense mission for Joel Edgerton's character, who will be caught in-between the crossfire of these two contrasting worlds. The series will likely explore the harrowing backstory and the circumstances that turned these operators into criminals and brought them face-to-face with the FBI agent hunting them.Trigger Point star Joel Edgerton recently starred in Clint Bentley's drama film Train Dreams and had a supporting role in Charlie Polinger's directorial debut psychological thriller movie The Plague. On the small screen, Edgerton played the lead character of Will McGill in the Australian drama series The Secret Life of Us and Apple TV's sci-fi series Dark Matter, the latter of which will shortly release its second season on the platform.Netflix won the bidding war for Trigger PointTrigger Point was initially pitched to at least four buyers, with the final deal between Netflix and Apple TV. The former streaming giant eventually won this bidding war and added this impressive title to its action-thriller library of content.Query's initial script for the show was earlier landed by A24 in May (in a seven-way bidding war), following which, Hipps and Saulnier were boarded as producer and director, respectively. In addition to writer and series creator, Query will also take up showrunner duties for the project.
