With James Wan taking the helm of the series, there was no doubt that it was going to be one worth watching. Now that the series has been released, James Wan’s abilities have been proven once again. The series delves into two real-life incidents. The first case is of the haunting of Chris DiCesare. The first case encompasses the first three episodes of the five-episode series.

True Haunting dives into the story of Chris DiCesare and the Ghost of Erie Hall

The series begins with Chris DiCesare’s journey to college. As a fresh joinee, he came to college with dreams that soon got trampled because of an incessant, horrifying presence in his life. Chris was athletic. He often went on jogs around the campus. Soon, he began to feel a terrifying presence around him. Initially, he does not pay heed to it. However, it becomes too much to ignore. He informs his roommate about the situation.

His roommate also feels the presence of a being. We also see Ed and Lorraine Warren appear to help Chris with his situation, but things do not turn out well. Chris’s situation keeps getting worse. During this moment, his friend Jeff suggests trying to get more information about this paranormal presence in Chris’s life through photography. The photographs that Jeff took had some intriguing revelations about the presence.

However, instead of helping Chris’ situation, it further complicated it. This is because Chris began to be pointed out as the “ghost boy” amongst the college students, further isolating Chris. Jeff understands his mistake. He then tries to make amends with Chris. Jeff tries to make things better by bringing Chris back into his dorm room, where it all started. After Chris returns to his room, the hauntings become even more serious, and he begins to lose sleep.

His situation becomes so bad that even Father Charles Manning could not help him. Chris’s father also tried to help him, but he could not find a solution. In the end, Jeff and Chris begin to dig deep into the situation and find out about Sgt. Michael Parker and Lt. Thomas Boyd. Lt. Thomas Boyd was tortured on the very tree which falls in the way Chris used to run.

In the end, it is revealed that Chris was connected to Lt. Thomas Boyd. Thomas Boyd’s body was discovered by Chris’s ancestor, Adam Hubley. The spirit that haunted Chris was also haunting some of the other students of Erie Hall, which led to the spread of the news even further.

The distinct manner in which True Haunting explores Chris’s story leaves a lasting impact. There is slow progress into the horrifying elements that Chris experiences. Chris’s experience depicts how impactful these things can be as we see Chris’s health and life deteriorating. It becomes his story of survival.

Both the stories of True Haunting are equally terrifying. James Wan does a commendable job in meticulously unfolding the story of Chris DiCesare.
