Special Agent Dale Cooper - Kyle MacLachlan

At the heart of the series was FBI special agent Dale Cooper, who comes to the small town of Twin Peaks to examine the case of murdered homecoming queen, Laura Palmer. Cheerfully eccentric, obsessive about the details of his job, Cooper also becomes an emotional anchor and a strange presence in the town.

Further, when the mystery suggests the involvement of a spirit in the murder case, Cooper wears a different coat altogether than the typical FBI agent image. His dreams offer some crucial clues about the case. This makes Kyle MacLachlan’s performance one of the most iconic in television history.

Donna Hayward - Lara Flynn Boyle

Donna Hayward is the murdered Laura's best friend and the crux of the mystery. You'll grow up with her as she gets tangled up in the case of Laura's death and struggles with what it means to come of age and what kind of woman she wants to be. Donna’s pursuit of the truth and her emotional fragility serve as a more obscure, surreal element that the show throws at us.

In the original series, Donna was played by Lara Flynn Boyle, who added depth and authenticity to the character.

Laura Palmer - Sheryl Lee

Laura Palmer is the slain teenage daughter of a prominent family whose death sparks the entire Twin Peaks investigation. Although her role is primarily through flashbacks, photographs, and diary entries, Sheryl Lee’s representation of Laura captures the contrast in Laura’s life between the perfect, cherished teenager and the secret, darker side of her life.

Sheriff Harry S. Truman - Michael Ontkean

Sheriff Harry S. Truman is a vanilla cop who teams with Agent Cooper to solve the case in Twin Peaks. Portrayed by Michael Ontkean, Truman is a realistic, substantively good man who acts as a moral compass and source of practical assistance to the town and to Cooper. His pragmatic personality is a perfect counterbalance to Cooper’s quirky one, making them one of the most iconic investigative pairs in TV.

Alongside them is Sherilyn Fenn as Audrey Horne. Her character arc as a teenager who is fascinated by Agent Cooper adds an interesting layer to the drama. Dana Ashbrook plays Bobby Briggs, Laura Palmer’s boyfriend with a rebellious streak, who suffers personal dilemmas. Ray Wise is Leland Palmer, Laura’s father, and Grace Zabriskie plays the mother, Sarah. Richard Beymer appears as Benjamin Horne, a Local businessman whose schemes and personal life intertwine with the town’s mysteries.
