Twisted Metal Season 2 Episode 9 recap: Calypso arranges a party for the contenders
Episode 9 of Twisted Metal Season 2 begins with the closing scenes of the previous episode, where John Doe and Quiet were plunged near the well. Calypso asks them to drink from the wishing well. After the two take a sip, Calypso assures that their wish will be granted.
Meanwhile, the tournament contenders receive a small note which states that they will be having a party. Also, initially, Quiet was skeptical about it, and as they discussed Calypso's motives, she opened a box to find a dress, meaning that it was no prank.
When the contestants get dressed, Calypso announces to them to enter the gym and tells them that the party is held to honour the death with life as he cuts his hand and wipes it on a tree. The contestants follow the custom one by one. The party looks no less than a prom night. Everybody seems to enjoy themselves as they dance, take photos, and eat delicious food.
However, Quiet remains unsettled, sensing that Calypso might have twisted the rules once again.
For the others, it's a fun party as Vermin and Mr. Grimm share a tender moment, Raven confides in Axel about her past, while Sweet Tooth hits the dance floor. However, things soon turn upside down in the promenade.
Twisted Metal Season 2 Episode 9 recap: A joke turns deadly for Dave, and Mayhem's true identity ties her with Axel's past
The night's chaos reaches a breaking point when Stu jokes about Dave offering him chicken fingers. Stu tells him that they aren't human fingers. What was supposed to be a harmless joke turns into something deadly. Dave leaves, and Stu follows him to calm him down.
Surprisingly, Stu finds Dave devouring flesh. Turns out, he's still a cannibal. During the fight, Stu accidentally kills Dave and desperately tries to stage it as a suicide. He plants a suicide note and hangs his body with a rope. Even though Dave's injuries, a jabbed eyeball, clearly indicate a rushed cover-up.
At the party, Grimm and Vermin's sweet moments are interrupted as Sweet Tooth congratulates Grimm for winning Vermin's heart. However, Vermin misunderstands the statement and thinks it is a bet. Furious and heartbroken, she leaves Grimm. When Stu returns to the party, he tries to act casual as if nothing happened.
Amid the turmoil, we also get a glimpse of a romantic moment between Quiet and John. As they slow dance, they kiss each other. Their reunion is underscored by Axel's discovery. He recognizes the hair band Mayhem wears.
When Axel asks her about it, she confesses that she has had it since her childhood. Axel ties it to the family that he assassinated and the child whom he saved. He recalls that the piece of cloth matched the baby's blanket. So, Mayhem might be the child that Axel saved several years back, and who was later kidnapped.
However, before he could confess it to Mayhem, smoke choked everyone as they started to faint. When they wake up, they find themselves in separate vehicles, plunging them back to Calypso's sadistic tournament. The stage is set for the final round, and survival looks uncertain than ever.
