Peacock's Twisted Metal Season 2 finally premiered with its first three episodes on July 31, 2025. Based on a popular video game of the same name, the show debuted in July 2023.
While Season 1 was largely appreciated for its world-building and characters, adapted faithfully from the video games, fans were disappointed to see the absence of the titular tournament. However, the Season 1 finale was at the cusp of the said tournament, and it looked like things would finally kick off in the sophomore season. However, that was not the case. Repeating the painful anticipation from Season 1, the Twisted Metal Season 2 premiere featured a slow build-up with no signs of any vehicular action fans have been waiting for.
However, that being said, the characters (and their craziness) made the wait worthwhile with their strange antics and comedy. Anthony Mackie returns as the amnesiac milkman John Doe, who is finally reunited with Stephanie Beatriz's Quiet and her new friend, Tiana Okoye's Dollface.
John and Quiet's reunion had the potential to reignite their romance, but Dollface's past connection with John shifts the gears of their story, leading to much drama and mayhem.

Twisted Metal Season 2 premiere: Slow but an enjoyable plot buildup
Video game players were anticipating a major video game highlight in the Twisted Metal Season 2 premiere, but sadly, the first three episodes featured a slow plot buildup. Since the titular vehicular tournament is one of the highest events for the sophomore season, fans were expecting to see some action right away. However, the show takes up a lot of time in re-establishing its characters and reuniting them with each other for what's to come.
Twisted Metal Season 2 featured a seven-month time jump, which reintroduces us to its characters, who are in a much different place (both physically and mentally) than we left them in Season 1. John Doe, who longed for a new home in Season 1, finds himself in New San Francisco, where he is being trained to be the city's driver in the titular tournament. While things are finally looking good for him, he misses his partner Quiet and even tries to reunite with her on the road.
On the other hand, Quiet has joined Dollface's crew of killer marauders, who have waged a war against the city's Insiders. While Quiet questions Dollface's ways, she seems to fit in this universe after being parted from John. Elsewhere, Sweet Tooth and Stu are on their cross-country killing spree when they realize a new and more dangerous killer is in town.
While Twisted Metal Season 2 wasted no time in character development, it missed the action fans were waiting for. Character backstories and reunions make up the majority of the premiere, which can feel frustrating for fans who were waiting to witness the titular tournament and vehicular action from the video game.
The slow plot build-up is supported by laugh-out-loud comedy and amazing character development
While Twisted Metal Season 2 premieres with a slow start and takes forever to get to the main action, it makes up for it with amazing character development and laugh-out-loud comedy. For anybody wondering if the show retains its craziness from Season 1, the answer is a big yes. The world in the sophomore season is not just crazy but even more chaotic and funny, partly because of the plethora of new characters introduced.
The enigmatic Calypso, played by Superman's Anthony Carrigan, is surely the highlight of the Twisted Metal Season 2 premiere. His character not only perfectly fits into the show's chaotic world, but he is the real mastermind who puts the forthcoming events of the show in motion. His calculated actions and the announcement of the titular vehicular tournament are what bring the ensemble cast together in the temptation of a worthy prize. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law's Patty Guggenheim debuts as the new Raven, and the actor's transition is smooth, as she feels much at home with the character.
While the premiere was a slow buildup, waiting for the actual moment we have been anticipating, it is still a joyful ride (pun intended), partly because of the characters and their relationships with one another.
While this was just the premiere, the season will certainly pick up the pace and feature the actual tournament, making the wait worthwhile.
Twisted Metal Season 2 Episodes 4 and 5 will premiere on August 7, 2025.
