Twisted Metal Season 2 premiered with its first three episodes on July 31, 2025, and is doing well both with the critics and the audiences. Fans are loving their favorite characters, including John, Quite, and Sweet Tooth, returning to the screen, and showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith already has big ideas for the next seasons.
It should be noted here that Twisted Metal has not been renewed for any further seasons till now. However, given the show's performance, a renewal does not seem far-fetched.
Twisted Metal Season 2 is already turning up the heat with the kind of car rampage that is signature to the game. With the showrunner’s words about the following seasons, it seems that the series will only get better.
Twisted Metal showrunner has big plans ahead
Talking to The Direct about his long-term plan with Twisted Metal, Smith said,
“I think when you watch the season full and you get to the final episode, I think it is extremely clear where Season 3 goes. So I have a lot of plans for that. Obviously, I don't want to spoil anything. Like, Season 3 is extremely clear.”
He further added,
“I have a lot of amazing, fun ideas for where that goes, and I have a lot—I have an amazing idea for Season 4 that I think fans will lose their goddamn minds when you hear it. I have a lot of ideas for that.”
He also mentioned that they have no problem continuing as long as the fans enjoy watching the series, as they have no shortage of ideas for new seasons. He also mentioned that he has a six-season plan, saying:
“I think that there's a line in the show that pretty clearly steps out what my plan is, if you kind of can find it... But I'm not one of those people who's going to be like, I have a very strict six-season plan. I want to go for as long as the fans watch. And I think we have a lot of great plans for these characters.”
Given the way new characters have been added in the second season of the show, it would be interesting to see how they are further developed.
Twisted Metal can be streamed on Peacock.
