Peter Dinklage's Tyrion Lannister was one of the smartest players in Game of Thrones, known for his wit, political understanding, and cunning. Born a dwarf and mocked throughout his life, Tyrion managed to survive in the game, even with the constant contempt from his father and sister, Cersei.
While Tyrion Lannister remains one of the smartest characters in the show, some of his decisions stemmed from prejudice, making his presence weaker as the show progressed.
Among many other irrational decisions, his decision to remain an advisor to Daenerys even through her bitter end and pushing Bran Stark to become the king even when he was not fit to rule remain among the top.
More on Tyrion Lannister's irrational decisions in Game of Thrones in our story.
I think Tyrion Lannister has made many dumb and irrational decisions in Game of Thrones
While Tyrion Lannister was considered one of the smartest people in Game of Thrones, his character became irrational as the show progressed, and some of his decisions in the latter half of the show were just dumb and questionable.
One of the most questionable and out-of-character decisions he made was to give up his only real friend, Varys, after he revealed the secret of Jon Snow's parentage to him. Knowing that the punishment for treason would be death, he compromised his friend to the Queen soon after. Not only was it a betrayal to Daenerys, but it also led to Varys' death, as Drogon incinerated him soon after.
Talking about his illogical decisions, Tyrion Lannister became a delusional man as Game of Thrones progressed, which is evident in the Season 7 finale. Even after knowing his sister, he tries to use his words to persuade her to send the North Army to fight the war with the dead. A calculating and smart man like Tyrion would have known that Cersei would not help him, and it almost cost him the war.
Tyrion Lannister completely changed for the worse in Season 8
His streak of making questionable decisions in Game of Thrones did not stop but only became more rampant in Season 8. Tyrion Lannister was considered a great political mind in the show mainly because he could judge people's actions and could predict what was coming.
His logical thinking was one of the main skills that marked him apart from his siblings, but his decisions in Game of Thrones Season 8 were not only irrational but completely out of character.
Even when he had predicted that Daenerys was losing her mind and becoming paranoid in the last leg of the war, he still stood by her side. In addition, his decision was not out of loyalty but hope that she would not destroy King's Landing.
Tyrion Lannister has always been a man of logic and deduction, not hope, and his irrational decision cost the deaths of his siblings and countless citizens. While his advice was of great value, he channeled it wrongly. He continued to remain Daenerys' biggest advisor even when she was visibly incapable of making rational decisions, ultimately leading to her downfall.
While Tyrion started as the strongest character in the show, his emotional understanding and irrational behavior changed his trajectory forever.
