Unforgotten Season 6 Episode 5 recap: Mel and Asif’s involvement in the case

Unforgotten Season 6 episode 5 just dropped with some major revelations related to Gerry’s murder. As Sunny and Jess get much closer to finding the truth in the penultimate episode of the series. In this episode, Sunny plays a vital role in uncovering the truth that Mel was hiding.

Shocking revelations about Asif’s involvement in the case leave the viewers awestruck. Unforgotten Season 6 truly takes a massive turn after the last episode. In the last episode, we found out that Mel was hiding a lot of secrets related to Gerry. Her secrets begin to unravel in this episode when Sunny flies to Ireland to speak with Mel face-to-face.

Unforgotten Season 6 episode 5 unfolds Mel and Asif’s involvement in the case

The fourth episode of Unforgotten Season 6 set the stage for Mel’s involvement in the case. Sunny and Jess find out about the messages that connected Mel with Gerry and even Juliet in the fourth episode. They understood that Mel was lying about her involvement with Gerry, as she said their relationship was short-lived. However, in the messages, it was found that their relationship was much longer than Mel revealed.

Hence, Sunny decided to fly to Ireland to speak with her himself. On his arrival, he begins to question Mel about the messages, and soon Mel completely reveals the truth. She admits to lying to them in the interview so that they would not connect Gerry's disappearance with her. When Sunny presses the issue and asks to visit the storage unit.

However, Mel hesitates and questions him whether he has a warrant to search the storage unit. Now, when the storage unit is searched, a shocking object comes to light. Amongst the boxes, a jacket with a bloodstain is found. When a DNA test is done on the blood, the truth is as clear as the day. It is Gerry’s blood that leads to Mel getting arrested right away.

On the other hand, when Asif’s DNA is found in the sweatshirt of Gerry and he is asked questions about it, he begins to evade. Jess tries to ask him about how his DNA ended up on Gerry’s sweatshirt, to which Asif answers “no comment”.

Jess also asks about the Dowari family and the last time that he met them. Jess keeps pressing Asif about the assault that Gerry faced, and that it was because of how Gerry was treating the Dowari family. Asif gets more and more entangled with Jess’s questions.

Unforgotten Season 6 episode 5 also depicts that Sunny visits the church, where he speaks to the priest, who reveals more about Mel’s secrets. Mel opened up to the priest about her past, where she admitted to having a relationship with a married man and also having a baby with him.

In the prison cell, Asif keeps on saying that he is not involved and that he has done nothing wrong. This episode truly sets the tone for the final episode of this season, which will reveal the truth.

This episode masterfully weaves the two distinct storylines, connecting with one another in a nuanced manner. This is the exact reason why this series is such an intriguing depiction of the world of crime.

Unlike the many crime dramas that are extremely fast-paced, there is a distinct, deliberate, and slow approach to this series. This aspect makes us viewers feel more connected and in tune with the characters. This slow approach is also very realistic in real-world situations. No wonder this series has such a huge fandom.
