Mel was relieved, thinking that her secrets would be safe.

However, Sunny and Jess proved their competence when they found out about Mel’s relationship with Gerry. Though Mel said that she did not have a long-term relationship with Gerry, it was all a facade to hide the truth. In the fifth episode, we see that the storage unit where Mel left her belongings is investigated. While searching through the multitude of boxes, a jacket was found.

Now this jacket belongs to none other than Gerry himself. After the jacket’s DNA matches Gerry's, Mel is arrested right away. This episode also sees the arrest of another character. Asif’s DNA is found in the sweatshirt after he is arrested. Jess tried to ask him questions about his DNA being found on the sweatshirt; however, he kept saying “no comment” and was later put in jail as well.

On the other hand, Jess’s personal life begins to unravel as her husband reveals his sex addiction, which Jess quickly dismisses. It seems that their relationship will be coming to an end very soon. Along with this, this episode also depicts that Juliet is trying to coerce her daughter into hiding the truth.

She tries to prevent Jess and Sunny from speaking to her daughter so that the truth is not revealed. Though much is revealed in this episode, it cannot be denied that this episode sets the perfect tone for the final episode of this season.

The fifth episode of Unforgotten Season 6 perfectly reels the story in without giving away many details. The complex tapestry of life that we see in the series is proof of the competence of the creators and the cast of the series.
