View this post on Instagram Instagram PostDeadline describes United as:''United presumably looks at the 1999 uprising in East Timor, which took place following a UN-organized independence referendum in the territory. East Timor was a Portuguese colony up until 1975, briefly asserting independence before being annexed by Indonesia, in an invasion supported by the administration of U.S. President Gerald Ford...But by the late ’90s, Indonesia was politically weakened, and the people of East Timor were allowed to vote on whether to remain within Indonesia or become independent.''East Timor's fight was supported by the UN, which established the United Nations Mission in East Timor to oversee the referendum. Despite intimidation by the Indonesian militia, the entire eligible population of East Timor voted, proving their wish to gain independence. However, to retaliate, the militia orchestrated a violent campaign in East Timor that killed 1400 people. This is when Bill Clinton and his leaders de-escalated the situation, guiding East Timor in this difficult time. Eventually, East Timor became a fully sovereign nation in May 2002.United could mark Kevin Costner's first major role after Yellowstone View this post on Instagram Instagram PostRecently, Kevin Costner is most famous for playing the Dutton patriarch in Taylor Sheridan's passion project Yellowstone on Paramount+.
