Jason Sudeikis gives an exclusive preview of Ted Lasso Season 4 while speaking with the New Heights podcast. In the podcast, Jason recalls the tough time of two straight years during the writers’ strike and how that resulted in the entire production coming to a halt.
He asserted that during that time, some ideas kept coming to them, and they are actually exploring them now. Jason believed that the universe keeps saying things in the most mysterious ways in life — through some kind people he is friends with, fans, and others — and he keeps acknowledging them. This was the reason he realised that Ted Lasso isn’t finished yet.
"I should say that the universe kept saying things whether you know kind folks at airports or on the internet or friends or just people in the industry.. wherever in any walk of life and it was just like 'I hear you', 'we hear you', 'we are listening'."

Here is how the Ted Lasso star recalled writing amidst the writers' and actors strike
The Writers’ and Actors’ Strike of 2023 was a major labour action in Hollywood that brought nearly all U.S. film and TV production to a halt for several months. The Writers’ Strike (WGA) started May 2, 2023, and the actors’ strike started July 14 that same year.
"We had those couple of years where we had the writers and actors' strike, and that made the time off that we all earned feel a little less special because everybody was off. It's breaking because you know that just makes things tougher, not just the actors or writer, but others involved in making these things (films). The light, makeup and costume, all of this stuff, come to a grinding halt
He added, further reflecting the fans' enthusiasm for the show,
"Post that I should say that the universe kept saying things whether you knwo kind folks at airports or on the internet or friends or just people in the industry.. wherever in any walk of life and it was just like 'I hear you', 'we hear you', 'we are listening'. And then more stories keep popping into our heads, and we are just exploring all of that now. It's exciting."
This also made him believe Ted Lasso isn’t complete, despite the rumours about Season 3 being its last one.
The writing of Ted Lasso season 4 is actively going on
The writing of Ted Lasso Season 4 is underway. Jason revealed in the podcast that they are now exploring ideas that popped up during the strike.
The upcoming season will feature Coach Ted Lasso leading a women’s team. It fulfills the setup teased at the end of Season 3 when Keeley pitched creating a women’s AFC Richmond squad.
"That’s the official word, yeah. Ted’s coaching a women’s team," he added. "It's exciting, and I mean, it's daunting. you know? Because we told the story we wanted to tell. But there's more there and it is a neat group of people to work with. It's a wonderful group of people and characters to write around and for. There are so many likable characters in that and everybody plays their part."
However, although the filming was supposed to start in 2025, per reports, the release time has not been confirmed. The cast members, hearing of the renewal of Ted Lasso for Season 4, responded by comparing the show to “a dead cat who is resurrected” — surreal but deemed right. Bill Lawrence, the co-creator, reaffirmed Jason’s decision and asserted that the team fully supports him.
