It's official that The Boys will come to an end with its upcoming fifth and final season. While fans of the show across the globe do have cause for celebration as the next edition of The Boys will soon hit the screens almost half a decade later, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Hollywood strikes, there's also the lingering sorrow over the fan-favorite show coming to a conclusion.
Ahead of the impending release of The Boys season five, the cast of the Prime Video show, including Antony Starr, Jack Quaid, Colby Minifie, etc., appeared for an exclusive interview at the Deadlie Studio at Prime Experience and opened up about their insights centering on the show's conclusion.
Here's everything that you need to know.
What did the cast of The Boys say about the show coming to an end?
The cast and crew of The Boys have been working together for more than half a decade now, and therefore, it's only natural that they've come to cherish their professional bond and the show itself. Antony Starr summed it up perfectly when he reflected on the long journey of being an integral part of the show and the immense contribution from everyone involved:
"This has been such a...this has been eight years. We've been shooting this for eight years and its such a lottery when you go into these things like, you know you signed a contract that it could go on for six years but you have no idea who you're jumping in bed with, and luckily everyone across the board is such a great bunch of people and fantastic talent that...and not just the people on this couch. I'm talking across the board from everyone, every department, behind the scenes, the VFX, everyone is so talented. We've got John Koyama, won an Emmy last year for stunt co-ordination."
He further added:
"You know, its just such a great creative team. I feel really proud of what we've done. I feel like we're one of the most relevant shows on TV. I feel like its some of the strongest performances on TV and I'm really proud of what we've pulled off and I'm very fond of everyone in it and its a very bittersweet moment to be wrapping it up."
Jack Quaid similarly commented about the impact of the show coming to an end:
"Every time it’s the same reaction. ‘No! Who do I have to murder!?; And that’s a good sign. You don’t want the opposite where they’re like, ‘Oh thank God.”
The Boys creator Eric Kripke reflects on the developing nature of the show's scripts
The Boys creator Eric Kripke had earlier revealed in an interview with Forbes magazine that, owing to the show's decision to incorporate contemporary and ongoing social events into its narrative, the final scripts are often left open to further development right up to the moment of filming starts. Kripke explained:
"I mean, look - things adjust all the time. So, that doesn't really scare us. That's pretty par for the course. You're always rewriting these things right up until the day before they shoot, and sometimes, the day they shoot. So, we're used to changing things as the world changes - but yes, we definitely adjust scripts as new events come to light.”
The Boys is exclusively available on Prime Video.
