Beast Games creator MrBeast sat down on the Colin and Samir podcast, recorded ahead of the release of his show on Amazon Prime Video.
He claimed it was difficult for him to sleep at night owing to excitement about it all. He said that he wanted the show "to drop so he can get a good night's sleep."
Samir then reminded him that about a year ago, Beast Games was still a concept and of the discussions around it. MrBeast was reportedly afraid that if the show flopped, everyone would think he was "just a YouTuber."
Now that filming for the show has been completed, he asked Mr Beast if he was confident:
"I'm very confident. I think it's gonna do really well. I mean, you guys have seen an episode or two. I sent an episode or two to Casey because he's like super critical occasionally. I'll send him like a MrBeast philanthropy video because he likes helping with those and he just rips into those every single time and tells me how to make it better... he's like, I think this is gonna do really well."
Mr. Beast talks about his confidence in the show
Beast Games was released on Amazon Prime Video on 19 December 2024. The show has filmed ten episodes that are released weekly on Thursdays. Before its release, MrBeast shared his thoughts about the upcoming series and said he was confident about its success.
He said that the confidence came from showing a few episodes to people that he knows. All they spoke about was "what they would've done" in that situation:
"I don't think I realized that when filming the show that that would be the thing that people would kind latch onto and really like... I wasn't even thinking like tye normal viewer is just going to be like 'What would I do in that situation? Would I scr*w my friend over for a hundred grand?'"
He reckons that the concept is unique because no one has ever made such a "competition story" out there.
He is certain that Beast Games would do well based on the fact that his show is a blend of all the things that viewers would want to see in a competitive live-action reality TV series.
Navigating the conversation to the 'just a YouTuber' remark, Colin asked if it is such a bad thing to be known as a YouTuber. Clarifying his thoughts, Mr Beast elaborated:
"A YouTuber that manipulates an algorithm."
However, he pointed out the difference between working and making videos on YouTube and a full-fledged TV show. Mr Beast explained that it was hard to work to create a compelling storyline. The TV show gave him the creative liberty to take notes on what he wanted to do with the contestants.
He pointed out another facet of YouTube versus Prime Video: the viewers' mindset. He said that if a person is opening YouTube, they are not looking forward to consuming long-form content are are usually switching between videos, but when they open Prime Video, they are ready to immerse.
