Vincent D'Onofrio applauds Marvel for not recasting any of Daredevil’s original cast members in Daredevil: Born Again series

Daredevil: Born Again is a Marvel TV series on Disney+ that continues the story of Daredevil from the previous Netflix series. Dario Scardapane, Matt Corman, and Chris Ord created the series, which stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk.

The series has a lighter tone and episodic structure than the Netflix version. It was announced in 2022 with a total of 18 episodes scheduled. While the title refers to the well-known 1986 comic narrative, the show tells a fresh story.

Marvel Studios has publicly been praised by Vincent D’Onofrio, the most recognizable actor as Wilson Fisk, or Kingpin, for keeping the original Daredevil cast intact in the new series Daredevil: Born Again. In a post MCU Film News shared on X, Vincent D’Onofrio mentioned his appreciation of Marvel not letting the original cast of Daredevil disband. He referred to it as a great thing that shows the respect of the studio for the origins of the story and the long-term devotion of the fans.

D’Onofrio pointed out that the decision envisages both the characters and the performances that characterized them to keep on evolving organically. The next series, Daredevil: Born Again, will continue the storylines of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Echo, following Matt Murdock as he regains himself as both an attorney and vigilante.

In the meantime, Wilson Fisk will reappear as a political power and influence within New York City, but not through brute force, but through power and influence to manage his empire. The new dynamic will be more multi-layered and morally nuanced between the two.

The remarks of Vincent D’Onofrio are not without substance, considering he has a rich career in television and film. The award-winning actor, whose resume also includes some nominations for the Emmy, was active in Full Metal Jacket, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, The Cell, and Men in Black. It is not the last stint at villainy since his subtle characterization of Kingpin is both ferocious and sympathetic.

Onofrio attributed this to the heritage of the emotional continuity of Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and showrunner Dario Scardapane being aware of what fans love. As he alluded, Born Again is not to be a restart but rather a continuation with closure and evolution of characters that have been pursued by fans for almost a decade.

Charlie Cox is the returning cast member of Daredevil: Born Again, where he reappears as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, the blind vigilante lawyer of Hell's Kitchen. Vincent D’Onofrio comes back in the role of Wilson Fisk / Kingpin, the criminal mastermind and political manipulator who is at the center of the battle.
