The Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to bring back one of its most iconic characters in Phase 6 with Vision Quest. Paul Bettany's Vision, paired with Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, was one of the most iconic couples in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Vision, by himself, is also one of the most legendary characters in general, and especially so in Avengers: Infinity War.
Paul Bettany's Vision is set to return with a brand-new series in the MCU Universe titled Vision Quest, so fans are incredibly excited to find out more details about the upcoming series. In a recent conversation at the LA Comic Con, the panelist asked Bettan what he is expecting from Phase 6 of the MCU, and he had an absolutely hilarious and apt reply to the question without revealing any accidental spoilers (to our dismay).
More on this in our story!
Vision Quest's star Paul Bettany has a hilarious take on Marvel Phase 6

It's been some time since Paul Bettany was last seen as Vision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Android Avenger was last seen in WandaVision; he and another version of himself, dubbed The White Vision, were both a part of the series. However, according to the latest updates, 2026 will be the return of the Android Avenger in the Vision Quest series.
Bettany has always been the one to make jokes at his own expense. When he started out in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was as JARVIS, Tony Stark's AI assistant. JARVIS was a voice-only role for Paul Bettany, and referring to the voice-over aspect, he used to call his job the easiest in Hollywood. He'd joke that he just had to spend a few hours in the recording booth and get a massive check after.
The check joke seems to continue, as Bettany, when asked in a recent conversation about what he was expecting from Phase 6 of the MCU, had a hilarious reply without spilling any unintentional beans about his character's future in the universe. In true Vision fashion, he replied:
"A massive paycheck"
This is also the first time that Paul Bettany has officially and publicly spoken about or referred to VisionQuest, so fans were extremely excited to hear from him.
Marvel's confidentiality clauses are very well-known to be iron-willed, so it makes sense that Bettany couldn't reveal anything about Vision Quest, but he did offer some themes that the new series might be exploring:
It's sort of about intergenerational trauma.
He then went on to add:
"it's about fathers and sons and and stuff and and denial of pain and denial of your your own truth and um and coming to terms with who and what you are and uh what you could be. you know, I mean, I think one of the things that's really powerful about the character is that he's always in a state of flux and change. And um I think that's I think that's really uh important. I think that's really important for people and very important for what turns out to be uh the fans of WandaVision, you know."
So, Paul Bettany referred to intergenerational trauma, the bonds between fathers and sons, and the aspect of finding yourself and coming to terms with it as some of the most important thematic focuses in Vision Quest. The intergenerational trauma and the father-and-son aspect of the themes refer to the fact that James Spader is set to reprise his role as Ultron, Vision's creator, in Vision Quest.
Everything that has been revealed about Vision Quest by Bettany in the latest Comic Con just points to how deeply imbued with questions of identity this series is, as the end of the trilogy.
