Vision Quest is a new Marvel miniseries coming to Disney+ in 2026. It follows Vision, a superpowered android who was brought back to life without memories or emotions after dying in Avengers: Infinity War. Paul Bettany returns as Vision.

The show also stars James Spader as Ultron, a dangerous AI, and Todd Stashwick as Paladin, a bounty hunter chasing Vision.

Paul Bettany, who has performed in a variety of roles both in movies and on TV, is coming back into the limelight with a new series, Vision Quest, by Marvel Studios. In a recent interview, he referred to Vision Quest as a narrative about an intergenerational trauma.

More about Paul Bettany and Vision Quest

Discussing the main idea of the show, Paul Bettany said that Vision Quest explores the issue of intergenerational trauma, focusing on the way pain and memories are being transmitted, transformed, and finally addressed.

The series is a continuation of WandaVision, in which Vision goes on a self-discovery quest, having recovered some of his consciousness. His search is not only about seeking Wanda or regaining lost memories, but also about how grief and love make him who he is.

Bettany said one of the emotional joys of Vision Quest is the intergenerational, or, in the case of Vision, the nature of trauma. It is an allegory of the way people cope with loss, learn a lot, and develop empathy. It is the purpose of the show to balance philosophical contemplation and the typical narrative that is the usual style of Marvel, to merge thoughtfulness with the visual.

This change is well reflected in the career of Paul Bettany. Beginning in British theater and indie films, he has found acclaim in movies such as A Knight's Tale, Master and Commander, and A Beautiful Mind.

His introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as J.A.R.V.I.S. and subsequently Vision made him one of the emotional cores of the franchise. The subtle depiction of love, reason, and desire by Betty in WandaVision won a wide range of reviews, which preconditioned this new chapter.

The actor gave clues that Vision Quest will be concluded as hopeful but open-ended, one that will take note of the burden of past pain but focus on renewal. It is not about forgetting grief but instead changing it, a message that goes way beyond the world of superhero fiction.

Cast of Vision Quest

Vision Quest sees the return of Paul Bettany as Vision, as he reclaimed the role following the finale of WandaVision, where his consciousness was miraculously healed by placing it in a new body.

Although the casting specifics remain secret, it is speculated by fans that Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) does appear, and that her appearance makes the movie an emotional moment, bridging loose ends of her role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Other speculated appearances are Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness, a continuation of the magical strings in Agatha All Along, and potential cameos by new MCU characters to find out what artificial intelligence can do. Vision Quest, with Bettany as the lead, will provide a human-in-the-middle story with the growing theme of identity, legacy, and emotional revival by Marvel.
