Netflix's breakthrough Korean thriller show Squid Game will finally conclude with season 3 on June 27. Anticipation around the final season is already building high, and fans are speculating on how the show will conclude.
In addition to Gi-hun's efforts to save the players and put an end to the game, there is also much excitement about the new games that will be introduced in the final chapter.
While the show is bleak in itself, the colourful children's games are a fun part and the previous seasons' games like ddakji, gong-gi, Mingle, Dalgona and many more were highly popular on social media.
While fans speculate about the new games, Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has revealed that they will be even deadlier than the previous seasons, via Entertainment Weekly:
"I wanted very intense games to bring out the bottom parts of human nature."
More on Squid Game Season 3 in our story.
Squid Game Season 3 will have new and deadlier games
With Netflix releasing new teasers and posters for Season 3, the hype is real. The upcoming season will see the conclusion to these twisted games, orchestrated by the Front Man and his fight against Gi-hun.
Squid Game Season 3 will also reveal the fate of Gi-hun and the remaining players, which looks bleak in the newly released teasers. In addition to Gi-hun's internal struggles to put an end to this madness, the games will continue as usual.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Dong-hyuk has teased that the new games will be even deadlier as the show is reaching its conclusion:
"In the case of season 3, I wanted to introduce games that could really show the lowest bottom of human beings, because the series itself is reaching its climax.''
While the fans are excited to see if Gi-hun will finally succeed in his mission, there is much excitement about the games of the final season.
Squid Game Season 3 could likely have a game around acrophobia
While Dong-hyuk was naturally tight-lipped about the specific games to be featured in Squid Game Season 3, they will be inspired by classic Korean childhood games like the previous seasons.
However, the creator disclosed one detail about the upcoming games- that some would be based around the human fear of heights. Acrophobia (fear of heights) is a common phobia, and some of the games in season 1 were even centred around it, as Dong-hyuk discussed:
"In season 1, we had lots of games like Tug of War that really utilized height and the fear that this height gives...''
In addition to Tug of War, the glass planks game also utilised acrophobia, and it seems like season 3 is ready to recreate this phobia in the final season:
''...In season 3, I decided to introduce games that could really infuse fear in people with sheer height."
In addition to Dong-hyuk's comments, the recent poster for the final season features Jang Geum-ja (Player 149), Park Yong-sik (Player 007,) and Seon-nyeo (Player 044) standing in front of open doors on raised platforms.
Many fans have theorized that the posters likely hint at an upcoming game of honeycomb maze, where players will have to find their way across a maze or else they will fall down through these doors.
The raised platforms featured in the posters suggest an element of height in the upcoming games.
Squid Game Season 3 will be released on Netflix on June 27, 2025.
