No matter how much screen time she got, fans of True Detective who watched season 1 in 2014 are sure to remember Alexandra Daddario’s character. Yes, she appeared in True Detective, and yes, her part was significantly more important than many fans may remember.

She played a character named Lisa Tragnetti, a woman who ends up revealing one of the thorniest aspects of Marty Hart’s personal life. Her scenes were maybe (definitely) few and far between, but they as fresh ingredients added to the season’s story.

Alexandra Daddario had a recurring role on the HBO series as Lisa Tragnetti, a court reporter who becomes involved with Detective Marty Hart. The first season already had a dense plot involving a murder case, but Lisa’s storyline and arc added drama on top of the messiness that would have otherwise made characters feel real and flawed.

They meet at work, Lisa and Marty. This is the kind of story where things got immediately complicated. She knows he’s married, and she isn’t even going to try to pretend that what they have is anything more than fun. But Marty is still going to act controlling and jealous, even though he’s the one who is cheating.

Her scenes did so much to deepen Marty. He’s the stable family guy on top, but as soon as he gets with Lisa, all that goes out of the window. Their relationship is a testament to how hypocritical he can be. One minute, he’s being possessive; the next, he’s going all agoraphobic on anybody knowing.

Daddario’s acting gave Lisa a shape beyond that of a plot device. She played her with authority, which made the audience see that Lisa fit into Marty’s double life.

Not all addicts, but most of them were there for the return of Lisa, and boy, does it shake things up. When their affair explodes, Marty’s marriage begins to weaken, and it becomes a barrier to his relationship with Rust in later years too.

Why Alexandra Daddario’s performance stands out in the HBO drama

One reason Alexandra Daddario in True Detective is still a thing people talk about is how she played it. It was already a bold part for her in as much as the show did not try to hide the messy and awkward side of Marty and Lisa’s relationship.

She has spoken before about the role being a challenge for her, including the scenes of an intimate nature, but she accepted it because it felt right for the character and the story that was being told on television.

Her scenes with Woody Harrelson really hit hard, but they never felt over the top. She turned Lisa into a real person and as someone with her own drive, not just there to stir things up.

You notice her confidence, the decisions she makes, and how she handles Marty when he tries to push her around. She’s the kind of character you remember because she exposes the weak spots in Marty’s life that he’s desperate to cover up.

True Detective mostly follows Rust and Marty’s drawn-out investigation, but Lisa being in Marty’s life shakes things up in a huge way. She starts fights, pulls out hidden truths, and pretty much sets in motion the events that destroy Marty’s marriage. She hardly gets any screen time, but by the end, you can’t overlook how important she was to the whole story.

When True Detective first came out, people couldn’t stop talking about Daddario’s performance. It really launched her and allowed for more opportunities down the line. She proved she could tackle darker, more difficult characters, which is why her time on the show still gets mentioned every time people discuss her career.

Alexandra Daddario was not the star of True Detective, but playing Lisa Tragnetti, she really stirred things up. She came in with an energy that was impossible to pin down, targeting Marty’s failures and sparking the kind of fireworks that made season one so memorable.

You can sense her range and confidence in every scene. She is still remembered as someone who brought so much to the story.
