Peacemaker Season 2 premiered on August 21, 2025 on HBO Max and took place after the events of the recent Superman movie. Created by James Gunn, the superhero series is based on the titular character from DC Comics and is a part of the DCU or DC Universe.

The show is also written by James Gunn and features John Cena in the role of Peacemaker, along with other cast members like Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, and others. The show is about Chris Smith or the Peacemaker, who is a jingoistic vigilante and wants peace at any cost. The lead character has many obnoxious qualities that add to the humor of the series.

The first season of the show took place after the events of The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker is forced to join a squad called ARGUS and eliminate butterfly-like parasitic creatures. In Peacemaker Season 2, the protagonist finds an alternate universe where he is adored as a hero.

In Peacemaker Season 2, the show’s premiere episode ends on a shocking note as Peacemaker’s interdimensional trip leads to him killing his alternate self and even impaling him, in an effort to save himself. As Chris tries to hide the body of his double, he takes his other self’s phone as he wants to experience the life of a superhero in the other realm. While the Peacemaker from the other realm is now dead, speculations are rife about whether that version of Chris was good or bad. More details below.

In Peacemaker Season 2, Chris dreams of joining The Justice Gang but has to deal with Rick Flag Sr., the new head of ARGUS, who wants to read the sealed files that details the circumstances of his son’s death and mention Peacemaker as the culprit. While exploring the multidimensional door that his dad built, Chris finds a new universe that is better and more perfect than his own.

In that universe, Chris or the Peacemaker is in a relationship with Harcourt and is celebrated as a superhero. However, trouble happens when Peacemaker gets into a fight with his alter ego from the other universe and impales him in an effort to save himself. In Peacemaker Season 2, there seems to be a growing effort to include multiversal storylines that will connect the DCU in the future.

However, questions about whether the other Peacemaker was a good or a bad guy, have already begun. Only two episodes of Peacemaker Season 2 have been released till now and in the second episode, the original Peacemaker makes many trips to the other dimension, even though he is being watched by ARGUS and has been warned by Adebayo.

A significant point that points towards the personality of the other universe Peacemaker is the fact that he looks happy on the outside but attacks the original Peacemaker viciously. The original Peacemaker or Chris Smith, might be annoying and aggressive, but he is repentant as he suffers from the trauma of killing his brother. When the original Peacemaker goes to the other dimension, he finds that the other Peacemaker is happy with his father and brother. However, he still attacks the original Peacemaker in a ruthless manner. On the other hand, the original Peacemaker is weighed down by his past errors and feels guilty about having to kill his alternate version. Peacemaker even has a panic attack after the killing and that incident shows that the original Peacemaker is more self-aware. Therefore, it seems that even though the other Peacemaker was happy on the outside and had not committed any killing, he did not have a kind heart. On the other hand, the original Peacemaker suffers from past trauma, which has made him more humane.
