Netflix's latest thriller series, Untamed, starring Eric Bana, dropped on July 17, 2025, and kept the viewers hooked to the screens until the last scene. It's a slow-burning mystery with a maze of grief, justice, and secrets buried deep in the wilderness of Yosemite National Park.

But one question continues to linger post-finale: Was anyone convicted of the disappearance of Sean Sanderson? Sean Sanderson was introduced as a regular park visitor and businessman who went missing from Yosemite National Park, but in the end turned out to be Caleb's killer.

The answer? No. Not Kyle Turner. Not Jill. Not Shane Maguire; as per the finale of Untamed, nobody is convicted of Sean Sanderson's missing case. However, it did spill some truth, and it's darker than what the viewers expected.

Kyle Turner didn't kill Sean Sanderson in Untamed-but who did?

From episode one of Untamed, Kyle Turner (Eric Burner) carries guilt like a second skin. When he digs into Lucy Cooke's death, her case unfolds into something deeper: the buried truth about Turner's son Caleb, who vanished years ago.

Sanderson, the man Turner failed to locate, was behind Caleb's murder. That's the gut punch, but the knife twist? Kyle's ex-wife, Jill (Rosemarie DeWitt), already knew about it, and she devised a plan to take down Sean Sanderson. She didn't wait for the trial and instead paid Shane Maguire (Wilson Bethel), Yosemite's wildlife officer, to make Sanderson disappear. He did. No court, no charges, no conviction. Just a silent death, tucked away in the woods of Yosemite.

In the finale episode, after learning Kyle's condition, Jill opened up about the incident, how Caleb was killed by Sean, and how Kyle used Shane's motion cameras to gather evidence. On one hand, when Kyle wanted to work legally and put Sean Sanderson behind bars, Jill wasted no time and, without informing Kyle, contacted Shane Maguire to blackmail Sanderson and kill him. Kyle found out when Sanderson was reported missing, which was the final blow to their relationship.

Jill acted out of fear, rage, and desperation. She wanted to take revenge for her son's death.

The law was bypassed, and that's what Untamed wants you to sit with

By the time Kyle Turner uncovers the truth, Sanderson is long dead, and Jill's involvement was the final blow to their relationship. Meanwhile, Maguire's involvement in Lucy's murder puts him in a tight position.

During a crossfire between Kyle and Shane Maguire, he ends up in the hospital after being hit by a bullet and learns that Shane Maguire is dead. Naya used her tracking skills to track Shane and kill him. Thus, the main culprit behind Sean Sanderson's death is dead. Jill walks free, no trials, no headlines, just an uneasy truth that lingers.

This is what makes Untamed hit differently. It isn't your regular courtroom drama; it's the coarse reality of crimes that gets buried in the deep forests. It's about how a grieving parent takes it upon themselves to seek justice.

And that's what Untamed leaves you with: no neat resolution, no police procedural, just the truth—which is haunting, unresolved, and painfully human.

In the end, Jill's crime stays buried, and Maguire pays for his sins, while Turner walks away not as a hero but as a man burdened with the truth.
