Britt Lower won her first Emmy award for her brilliant performance as Helly. R / Helena Eagan in Severance. Her acceptance speech carried a clever nod to the series as behind the note was written in capital letters ‘LET ME OUT’. For Severance fans, this is a perfect tribute to the show, and her character, who desperately wants to escape from her work life at Lumon Industries’ severed floor.
Apple TV+’s Severance was nominated in about 27 categories at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards 2025 with Lower taking home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Britt Lower was nominated for the category along with Kathy Bates for Matlock, Sharon Horgan for Bad Sisters, Bella Ramsey for The Last of Us and Keri Russell for The Diplomat. Brett appeared visibly stunned when her name was announced. In her speech, she said,
“First, it's a privilege to even be mentioned alongside such an incredible group of artists. …I share this award with my heroic cast and crew whose work catalyzes mine…. Thank you for Helly R., for choosing me."
Severance follows the story of a company known as Lumon Industries where the employees undergo a medical procedure to keep their work and personal lives separate and ensure that they carry no memory from either to the other. Britt’s win was one of the more talked about moments from the evening, however it was her sneaky note that stole the limelight.
Significance of Britt Lower’s easter egg from Severance at the Emmys
Britt Lower plays the role of Helly. R /Helena Eagan in Apple TV+’s hit science fiction series Severance. While Helly. R works on the severed floor in Lumon Industries, Helena is the daughter of the owner of the company. Helly R. wants to resign but her ‘outie’ does not let her go through with it. She would find discreet ways to make her annoyance clear including writing the words ‘Let Me Out’ through various methods.
The character’s struggle to make sense of the circumstances she is forced to be in, makes Helly. R one of the more notable characters on screen. Lower’s easter egg from the series as she delivered the acceptance speech caught the attention of fans of the show who applauded her crafty reference.
Lower’s castmate, Tramell Tillman, who portrays the role of Mr. Milchick also won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Third season of Severance is currently in works.
