In a 2024 interview with Hollywood TV, the CW's Wild Cards stars Vanessa Morgan and Giacomo Gianniotti discussed their experience working in a crime series. Before Wild Cards, Vanessa Morgan was known for her role as Toni Topaz in the teen drama series Riverdale, while Giacomo Gianniotti gained recognition for his portrayal of Dr. Andrew DeLuca in Grey's Anatomy.

She expressed that she was really excited for Wild Cards and absolutely fell in love with the script.

"I was so excited. First off, I read the script before I got the offer, and I just fell in love with the script. I fell in love with Max. I thought this was like probably the most fun character I could ever play. Such a cool character, and you know, and I love his (Giacomo Gianniotti) character as well. Yeah, I was just so thrilled."

The show premiered on The CW in the United States on January 17, 2024, and was renewed for a second season, which aired on February 5, 2025. The show has been well-received for its engaging storytelling and the chemistry between Morgan and Gianniotti.

For Gianniotti, seeing where his character's story goes was more exciting, as the show can be made in so many different ways.

"For me, what was more exciting was to see where the story is going. The producers pitched me their idea for the show. You can make this show in a million different ways, so for me it was more about.. I fell in love with what the producers say the show would feel or look like. The kind of show they wanted to make and how they wanted to make it. So that was really a big take for me. "

The actors were then questioned about their feelings on teaming up after being part of two popular shows. Gianniotti answered that they both wanted to lead, to which Morgan simply agreed.

"I think we both were excited to be leads. This show was also creating something from the beginning, and not just being the supporting cast or sort of jumping onto a fast-moving train. Like when I jump into Grey's Anatomy, it was already very established, and I kind of find my way. But in Wild Cards, Vennessa and I could create something new, start from its inception."

Venessa said that these popular shows were a small part of it, their "little baby".
