Netflix's medical K-drama The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, which debuted with eight episodes in January 2025, became the breakthrough show on the platform, even surpassing Squid Game Season 2 on Netflix's Top 10 charts.

The show followed Baek Kang-hyuk, a genius trauma surgeon who arrives at a university hospital and reforms its struggling trauma section and takes Yang Jae-won (a fellow) under his wing.

The K-drama was adapted from the web novel Trauma Center: Golden Hour by writer Lee Nak-joon (Hansanleega) and topped Netflix's charts in 23 countries, including Chile, Indonesia, Singapore, and the UAE.

In addition, according to Netflix's Tudum, The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call also amassed 4.7 million viewing hours in its first week and became the third most-streamed non-English show in the Global category.

While the medical K-drama has not been renewed by Netflix officially, writer Nak-joon confirmed on his YouTube channel (Doctor Friends) that the show will return and was written for multiple seasons:

"This drama was made with seasons 2 and 3 in mind."

More on this in our story.

Exploring the possibilities for The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call Season 2

The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call became a breakthrough K-drama on Netflix. In a plethora of American medical shows, especially Grey's Anatomy and Chicago Med, which have continued to hold their firm grip on the genre, K-dramas are also gearing up.

With the success of this latest medical K-drama, fans are asking to continue the show for more seasons, and writer Nak-joon's comments are a much-needed respite.

While Netflix has still not officially renewed The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, the positive reviews and the recent success with Squid Game suggest that the K-drama will have future seasons.

Reflecting on the journey of his work, the writer discussed on his YouTube channel:

“When I first hoped that my novel could become a webtoon and eventually a drama back in 2019, it seemed impossible. But then, the rights were sold.''

However, his work got recognition at last, and the webtoon was picked by Netflix for a medical K-drama, as he further discussed:

“Netflix? At first, I thought it was just a dream...After a long period with no filming, suddenly, production started in 2023.”

In addition to the fact that the K-drama was written with two more seasons in mind, The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call Season 1 just started to adapt Nak-joon's written story, and there is still very much left to expand on the storyline:

“If the drama does well, there will be a Season 2. Season 1 hasn't wrapped up its story yet.''
