Was it tactless for Murn to reveal his true identity right before his death in Peacemaker Season 1? Fans speculate

The bearer of many secrets of Project Butterfly, Murn from Peacemaker Season 1 didn't quite have a heroic ending in the series. In the seventh episode of Peacemaker Season 1, we see that Murn gets surrounded by police with no chance of escape. The doors open, and the police enter and shoot Murn to his death.

However, right before the policemen leave, Murn’s true identity gets revealed through the dead body’s mouth in the form of a butterfly. It seemed that the butterfly was trying to escape, but the police captured the butterfly and smashed it to death.

In a recent Reddit post, fans are speculating that Murn's revealing his true identity right before his death was not a tactful decision.

Fan speculation about Murn revealing his identity in Peacemaker Season 1

In Peacemaker Season 1, we see that Murn is a significant character. He is very involved in the Project Butterfly and is also equally significant to the team. However, things do not turn out well for him in the seventh episode of the series. In the seventh episode, we see that before Leota and Harcourt are able to reach Murn, the police reach and kill him.

Now, in the final moments before the police leave, the butterfly form comes out of the mouth. He kept his secret for so long that many fans speculated that he could have held his secret for a little bit longer so that he could reach safety.

As he was crucial for the team’s success on the mission, his survival could have meant that the path towards success could have gotten easier. One fan on Reddit added,

“Murn already said he regretted taking the first host even though he was a murderer.“

It cannot be denied that Murn’s decision to eventually divulge his secret led to his demise and created trouble for Adebayo and the team as well. However, it can be an indication of his desire to come clean, much like a final act of honesty despite knowing the eventual outcome.

For the majority of the series, Murn remains a man of mystery. Hence, viewers were dissatisfied with the way he died. The revelation of his true identity also came at a crucial turning point in Peacemaker Season 1.

A fan speculated,

"I think they can't wait inside a dead host or they die. But he probably could have taken another direction.”

It could be a reason for the butterfly form to come out at the time of death. Similarly, another fan pointed out,

“It’s unclear if a butterfly can survive for a prolonged period within a dead host’s skull. He may simply not have access to oxygen.”

Though the reasons could be many, Murn’s actions gave the team a new purpose, moving them towards the path of success. Another fan pointed out,

“Wasn’t Murn’s butterfly supposed to be some type of high rank? Singh’s butterfly partner even says that it was murder when she killed him. Maybe Murn expected to be captured and could do some sabotage.”

It is truly intriguing to see how the fans are eagerly engrossed in the world of Peacemaker. It is undoubtedly a testament to the creators' ability to depict a story worth speculating on.

Though Murn's revealing his identity in Peacemaker Season 1 while dying created some trouble for the team, things eventually turned out positively in the end. In his final moments, we see Murn’s butterfly form share a heartfelt moment with Harcourt. It truly leaves a lasting impact.
