HBO's The White Lotus entered the 77th Emmys with nearly 23 nominations, tying with The Studio from Apple Studios. Yet, it couldn't win even a single award on the night of the Primetime Emmy ceremony.
It was surprising considering the amount of love and support the show had previously received from the awards circuit. Created by Mike White, it has scored over fifty nominations through its three-season run and earned 16 awards for its creative talent. Unlike then, the only Emmy win for the third season was for its theme music at the Creative Emmys.
Cristobal Tapia de Veer, who left the show after its third season over a reported creative dispute with Mike White, earned an Emmy in 2025 for composing the show's main title theme music. After the final ceremony, HBO's Casey Bloys spoke with Variety about The White Lotus leaving empty-handed that night. He said,
"I would say it was a victim of its own success, in that there were so many multiple nominees in categories. That’s hard. If you like the show, and you have to decide between two or three actors that you really like, vote splitting is a real thing. The good news is, Mike is off writing Season 4, so I’m sure he will be back, and we will be back. Maybe not the 2026 Emmy cycle, but probably the next one."
HBO executive Casey Bloys speaks about The White Lotus season 3 being shut out of the 77th Primetime Emmys

Casey Bloys sheds light on what may have worked against The White Lotus with the Emmy nominations for its third season. As earlier revealed, the season received 23 nominations, the third-highest count at this year's ceremony, right after Severance (27 nominations) and The Penguin (24 nominations). It also tied with The Studio for its count.
Yet, while the Seth Rogen series earned many awards throughout the night, The White Lotus left empty-handed. It may have to do with the strong competition in the show's category.
Mike White's satirical series about the uber-rich initially competed in the Limited Series category, but since its second season, it has became a part of the central Drama Series category. This year, it was up against heavyweights like Severance, The Pitt, and Andor, which were considered more likely to win the award for Best Drama Series.
Besides that competition, The White Lotus suffered from its own success, as explained by HBO executive Casey Bloys. The show received multiple nominations in the same category, leading to potential vote-splitting.
For example, three of its cast members, Sam Rockwell, Jason Isaacs, and Walton Goggins, received supporting acting nods in the same category. Otherwise, four others, Aimee Lou Wood, Parker Posey, Natasha Rothwell, and Carrie Coon, received nominations in the supporting actress category.
Despite those issues, Bloys seems hopeful about the show's future with Mike White at the helm. Previously, it was reported to be set in France. Even on the red carpet, many cast members confirmed these details, as per Variety. On this topic, Bloys told the publication,
"We know that it will likely be in France. City and details still to be determined."
