Watson Season 2 Episode 6 recap: Watson finds himself in an unexpected dilemma

Watson Season 2 Episode 6 finds the protagonist and his team handling a mysterious medical case, which will have the whole team fighting against the time to save the patient. In the episode titled ‘Buying Time’, Watson and his colleagues are trying to save a young athlete suffering from cancer. Meanwhile, Watson gets a shocking news from Mycroft Holmes, who informs that the funding to clinic may be halted due to the financial strain he has been facing.

Mycroft Holmes is putting the pressure on Watson in Watson Season 2 Episode 6

Dr. John Watson and his team have a new medical case that has them questioning everything from get go. Mycroft Holmes learns that he is on the verge of bankruptcy. In Watson Season 2 Episode 6, Mycroft is seen struggling with the turn of events, which Sherlock has a hand in. Mycroft is not going to sit ideally and decides to take revenge. Thus, Watson becomes his target.

Mycroft knew of Watson’s commitment to the clinic and the patients, and he wanted to use it to his advantage by halting funds to the Holmes Clinic. In Watson Season 2 Episode 6, Watson is determined to not give into Mycroft’s demands to go ahead with aggressive research. Watson is against the research that focuses solely on monetary benefits than helping patients.

Watson and team get a new case in Watson Season 2 Episode 6

Watson and his team will get a young patient, Casey, who has been grappling with pain for about two months. He was unable to get proper treatment for his condition due to his poor financial state.

Twenty-three year old Casey was an up-and-coming athlete who lost his college scholarship after his injury. He was unable to afford to go to a proper clinic for treatment and agreed to come to UHOP after it was made clear that he does not have to pay for the scans. Mary and the team discover that Casey has a spinal tumor, which will require a strong treatment process.

Watson was however in a fix in Watson Season 2 Episode 6 as Mycroft was still refusing to help through the foundation unless he went ahead with the research. Mycroft knew that Watson was desperate and even shares that he will personally take care of the patient’s needs if he agrees. But Watson stands his ground. Instead, he turns to billionaire Joseph Bell instead.

Watson learns about Bell’s questionable business endeavor in Watson Season 2 Episode 6

Bell is the owner of the company Anti-Ageing Generation. He was obsessed with the idea of a long life. He wanted to be a trailblazer in the field and help people live way past hundred. He wanted Watson to work for him, and he agrees for the sake of Casey’s treatment, which Bell agrees to cover for a month.

But Casey’s case is not as simple as it initially appears in Watson Season 2 Episode 6. During the surgery, the team discovers that the tumor could not be removed as it was merged with the spine. Even the chemotherapy option was not viable. They conclude that Casey did not get the cancer naturally and instead it was created in a lab. The revelation shocks the team as Casey’s condition continues to deteriorate at a rapid speed.

On further investigation, they gather that Casey had signed up for medical studies when he was desperate for money. One of the last studies that he was part of was a Primal Bio Tech’s study. After the study Casey was fine. When the pain started, he assumed it is because he was sleeping in his car. But in fact the study gave him cancer.

And here comes the unforeseen twist in Watson Season 2 Episode 6; Primal Bio Tech is a shell company of Bell’s Anti-Ageing Generation. Watson learns that Casey was used as a test subject, without his permission. Bell had also taken the same medication as Casey and has cancer. When Watson is helping Bell, he makes the connection. After a quick DNA test, they learn that both Bell and Casey have the same cancer in spines and they are both in danger.

The team at Holmes Clinic find a way to kill the cancer. But Watson was not going to let Bell get to it unless he helped them save Casey by funding his treatment. Even though Bell undergoes the same treatment, he could not be saved as his cancer mutated at a faster pace. Casey however survives.

As Watson Season 2 Episode 6 comes to an end, Ingrid will tell Stephens that she thinks he is depressed but he is reluctant to go to therapy because of his father’s accident. Watson will meet Mycroft, who demands that the doctor help find Sherlock for him. Mycroft threatens that he will find a way to shut down the clinic otherwise, leaving the choice up to Watson.
