For all the hopeless romantics out there, Netflix has premiered a brand new romantic comedy series, Too Much, created by Lena Dunham and Luis Felber.
BAFTA-winning and Emmy Award-nominated American writer and director Dunham created this latest romantic comedy series for Netflix with her husband and a British musician, Luis Felber, which is partly inspired by the couple's love story.
Too Much stars Megan Stalter (Hacks) as Jessica, a New Yorker, who moves to London after a bad breakup and strikes a romance with musician Felix, played by The White Lotus fame Will Sharpe.
Fans are already appreciating the sizzling chemistry between Stalter and Sharpe, and in a recent interview with Deadline, the actress opened up about her off-screen equation with Sharpe:
“He is just so sweet. He made me feel so comfortable, and from the moment we started filming, I felt like, ‘OK, we can be silly together, and he likes me joking around, and he doesn’t find me off-putting.''
More on this in our story.
Too Much: Megan Stalter and Will Sharpe added their own spin to Lena Dunham's love story
While Netflix's Too Much is inspired by Lena Dunham and her husband's love story, many instances and situations are fictional. While Dunham wanted to adapt her love story on the small screen, she never aimed for it to be a documentary of their love, which is why the show captures the essence of their story.
Discussing the approach Stalter and Sharpe took with their characters in the show, the Hacks actress said to Deadline:
''It was kind of capturing the essence of them and not just a direct documentary about them.''
She added:
''They never wanted us to do impressions of them, it was more so like, “We’re married and this is kind of this thing we’re doing together, but it’s your characters, and you take it as your own.” And not all of the stuff happened, but it’s just more the energy of them together.''
Stalter agreed that while she and her fellow co-star were playing a version of Dunham and Felber on-screen, they had complete creative control over their characters and were free to approach Too Much's story in their own way.
Too Much has many guest star appearances
In addition to Megan Stalter and Will Sharpe, the show also boasts a talented ensemble cast. including Michael Zegen, Rita Wilson, Daisy Bevan, Rhea Perlman, Janicza Bravo, and Lena Dunham herself.
In addition to this supporting cast, the show also has many surprising and exciting guest appearances by famous stars. From Kit Harington, Andrew Scott, Rita Ora, Stephen Fry, Naomi Watts to Janicza Bravo, Too Much will surprise you with guest actors at every turn, and Stalter was just as excited to be working with these big names, as she told Deadline:
''I was so excited to work with. I just couldn’t believe the cast, and I would get nervous to be like, “I can’t believe I’m doing a scene with Naomi Watts.” And then every single person that came on was so sweet and down to improv and be silly.''
Too Much is now streaming on Netflix.
