The Pitt Season 2 premiere set up an eventful sophomore season this Friday. Like the previous season, the second season will unfold over a day. This time, the season will be set during the July 4 weekend. The premiere manages to set in motion the multiple storylines for this season. But one of the most intriguing mysteries of the season is the abandoned baby subplot.

Earlier in the episode, the hospital staff finds an abandoned baby who is older than 28 days. Dubbed "Baby Jane Doe", the doctors are performing tests on her as a check-up. In the closing minutes of the episode, Dr. Samira Mohan hands Sepideh Moafi's Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi a piece of paper that shocks her. We don't learn what's written on the paper in the season 2 premiere.

Moafi and Shawn Hatosy were interviewed by Decider after the release of The Pitt Season 2 premiere, in which the actress addressed Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi's silence in the episode's closing minutes:

"Yeah, I think it ends on a big question mark and a big teaser of like, ’What’s going on for her? Yes, we will definitely learn more, and we’ll understand the context for that moment throughout the season, later on in the season. But yeah, the answer to that, it’s kind of tentacled and it’s rooted in a huge spoiler."

Shawn Hatosy reveals that even he was confused by how Moafi played that The Pitt Season 2 premiere scene:

Hatosy was also a part of the same Dicider interview in which he spoke about how the closing minutes of The Pitt Season 2 premiere were shot behind the scenes. The Dr. Jack Abbott actor revealed that he was initially confused by Sepideh Moafi's reaction in that scene:

"When I saw it, I was like, ‘What? Is there something, is it connected to infant care?’ It was so beautifully done. You know, you really go, ‘What is going on?"

Moreover, showrunner Scott R. Gemmill confirmed that the baby subplot will play out through the entire season.

“Some genius came up with an idea of what to do with a baby this year over 15 hours. That’s a whole season. You’ve got to use multiple babies. They can only work for 20 minutes … By the time the shift is over, which will be in January, this baby’s going to be walking to craft service by himself.”

What is the second season about?

The season begins with Robby Robinavitch on his way to the hospital on the July 4 weekend. It is his last day before a brief three-month sabbatical. Ten months have passed between the season 1 finale and the season 2 premiere. As that happens, Dr. Frank Langdon is back from rehab, but his relationship with Robby is strained. As that happens, the hospital staff have to deal with several shocking cases.

"THE PITT is a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh."
