Wednesday is back, and things at Nevermore Academy are darker and even more mysterious. The second season does not believe in wasting time. We are immediately thrown into the Academy and introduced to new threats. If Season 1 was full of twists, this one is going to be double that.
The biggest buzz this season comes from the mix of familiar faces and new ones. Morticia has stepped more into the light. Lady Gaga has joined the cast. And even a character we thought had died makes an unexpected return. You get to see Wednesday face not just monsters and other supernatural powers, but also her own fears and bonds.
Of course, the drama does not stop at Nevermore’s gates. The family secrets make things even more complicated, and friendships are put on the line. There seems to be more than one villain, and it honestly feels like a lot has happened already in Part 1 of Season 2. Every episode feels like it is daring you to guess the ending, and every time, you are probably wrong.
Wednesday Season 2 turns the darkness into drama
Wednesday is no longer simply solving crimes. She is now in the middle of them. The vision where she sees Enid’s death, and the horrible idea that she might be part of it, makes everything more personal. It is now about saving her best friend.
Then there is the family angle. Morticia has a bigger role this time. You see the clash between mother and daughter, and at the same time, you notice that they are more alike than they admit. The reveal of Ophelia, Morticia’s long-lost sister, will make the Addams drama even more fun to watch.
One of the best additions this season is Wednesday’s younger brother, Pugsley. He also joins Nevermore Academy and starts creating trouble almost immediately. He taps into his electrokinesis while near the old Skull Tree and accidentally brings a long-dead, clockwork-hearted student back to life as a zombie, whom he names Slurp. The way he fumbles through being the one responsible for resurrecting the undead is both hilarious and kind of touching. It gives Pugsley a moment of his own.
Thing also has a much bigger role this time. For the first time, we get a peek into his insecurities. He feels like the family only calls on him when they need something. There are moments where his sadness shows, especially when he thinks he is being taken for granted. These little glimpses of his inner world make Thing more than a comic relief.
Coming to one of the most exciting additions, Lady Gaga's role as Rosaline Rotwood, the mysterious teacher. She is one of the most talked-about players of this season. Gaga will bring her own weird and wonderful vibe to Nevermore, and that is saying something because this school is already weird enough.
Old enemies are returning, too. Tyler is back in Hyde form, and Larissa Weems is alive against all odds. These surprises are the ones that make fans love the show and be excited for it. Wednesday season 2 proves that the show has still got it.
