Wednesday Season 2 brought forth some unexpected family dynamics to the grim setting of Nevermore Academy. The audience was in for a surprise when they learnt about the connection between Tyler Galpin (played by Hunter Doohan) and Isaac Night, aka Slurp (played by Owen Painter). When Part 1 of the series ended with chaos at Willow Hill, Wednesday (played by Jenna Ortega) will help a mysterious woman get away from the LOIS (Long-term Outcast Integration Study) program. It turns out that she is Francoise Galpin (Frances O'Connor), Tyler’s mother and Isaac Night’s sister.

While speaking about the family connection, Doohan shared with Deadline that Tyler has always craved for his mother and was ready to do anything for her. He said,

“All he wanted was his mom back, and he thinks he has her, and then it’s so much more of a master-Hyde relationship than mother-son. (He’s) yearning for her love and affection and then being jealous of the relationship she has with Isaac. She’s more affectionate with him, sometimes to a creepy extent. And then she dies, and he’s left with nobody and nothing. It’s another tragic point for Tyler at the end of the season.”

Wednesday is a supernatural series on Netflix, which follows the story of Wednesday Addams as she navigates through the many challenges in her life as an outcast student in Nevermore Academy. The hit series was recently renewed for Season 3.

Who is Francoise Galpin in Wednesday?

At the end of Wednesday Season 2 Part 1, several outcast patients at Willow Hill manage to escape the facility. Among them is Francoise Galpin, known only as “Patient 1938,” whose identity remains a mystery until Part 2. It is then revealed that she is Tyler’s mother and Isaac’s sister, long presumed dead. By the season’s conclusion, a web of hidden Galpin-Night family secrets finally unravels, reshaping everything we thought we knew.

As per Deadline, Painter shared about exploring the dark family drama in Wednesday Season 2. He said,

“It was a lot of familiar family dynamics wrapped into one. It was really fun to shift very quickly between parenting (Tyler) and first scolding him (to) bickering with him like I was his younger brother, fighting for attention from mom, aka sister. It becomes this horrible little ball of family. That was a constant source of fun as an actor. I really enjoyed it. It grew as we worked, not (from) any one person’s intellectual ideas.”

Isaac was unintentionally resurrected as zombie Slurp by Pugsley Addams (Isaac Ordonez). After zombie Slurp manages to escape from the facility, he kills people to consume their brains and get back to his human form. The audience also gets a quick flashback about the brother and sister duo.

Francoise Galpin is a Hyde, and her brother, Isaac, wanted to help her. During their school days, Isaac, a genius scientist, would build a machine to help her with her condition. He intended to harness Gomez Addams’ (Luis Guzmán) electrical powers to fuel his experiment, but the risk proved deadly for his so-called “best friend.” Though Gomez survives, Isaac ultimately loses his life in the process.

Meanwhile, Francoise was fine until Tyler was born and her Hyde personality took over. She got admitted to Willow Hill post that. It was assumed that she died in the hospital, but in reality, she was part of the notorious LOIS program.

After Isaac returns to his true form, he reunites with his sister and nephew. Francoise, however, wants to save Tyler from his inevitable doom as a hyde. While her plan takes shape, they decide to use Pugsley's electric abilities to source the machine and kidnap him. But the Addams family steps in, especially Thing.

It is revealed that Thing was Isaac’s right hand, which Morticia Addams (played by Catherine Zeta Jones) had cut off while protecting Gomez during his experiment. Towards the finale, Francoise and Tyler will engage in an intense fight, and she will fall from the Iago Clock Tower and die.

From using prosthetics to play zombie to interacting with the Thing, Isaac had some fascinating moments in Wednesday Season 2. Painter quipped,

“There’s so much to play with. I felt particularly lucky, because going into it, when you think about working with Tim (Burton), you think about this pretty visionary genius regarding character design, and that was something that I wanted to really take a look at and soak up as much as possible while working with him.”

Wednesday Season 2 is currently streaming on Netflix.
