It's time to witness another tumultuous return to Nevermore with the Addams family in Netflix's Wednesday Season 2 Part 1. Wednesday's summer break is officially over, and in a surprise twist of events, she is willingly back at her school for another round of eerie murder mysteries. Part 1 of the sophomore season has just dropped, and the first four episodes are now available to stream on Netflix.
Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams returns to Nevermore in her second year at school, with her brother Pugsley (who has developed psychic powers of his own). Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 also introduces two new (and strange) characters - the Outcast-positive headteacher, Principal Dort, and a music teacher, Isadora Capri.
As the trailer hinted, Wednesday's return to Nevermore is even more deadly as a mysterious hooded figure named Avian is killing Outcasts with specially controlled birds. Wednesday learns that Avian killed Tyler's father, Donovan Galpin, and his PI partner, and she sees a horrific dream about Enid's death. To save her best friend from Avian, Wednesday begins an investigation with Agnes, her uncle Fester, and her grandmama, Hester Frump.
Here is the complete ending of Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 explained.
Wednesday Season 2 Part 1: Explaining the mystery behind the Willow Hill murders
The events in Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 kick off when Wednesday has a strange dream about Avian killing Enid. She learns about the various unexplained Outcast deaths and disappearances from Willow Hill and that Galpin has linked someone named Lois to these murders. However, her grandmama tells her that the Outcast remains found were fake, and she needs to find someone named Augustus Stonehurst to solve this mystery.
Wednesday takes the help of Uncle Fester and disguises him as one of the patients at Willow Hill. Once thrown into the asylum, she instructs her uncle to search for Stonehurst and Lois. Meanwhile, Wednesday learns that Stonehurst was a normie, infatuated with Outcasts. However, he was later sent to the asylum, following which he sent his daughter to an aviary.
Wednesday Season 2 Part 1: Explaining Avian's identity
Wednesday breaks her uncle out of the asylum, and together they track down Lois. As it turns out, Lois was not a person but a testing facility in Willow Hill, which stands for Long-term Outcast Integration Study. They learn that the Avian was locking the patients up in an underground facility by faking their deaths.
Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 reveals the shocking identity of Avian as Dr. Rachael Fairburn's assistant, Judi, who is none other than Stonehurst's daughter.
After the identity is reveal, Fester tries to electrocute Avian but instead trips the electricity, opening all the cells of Willow Hill. All the Outcast patients are released from their cells, and they seemingly kill Judi/Avian, Fairburn, and Stonehurst. Using this opportunity, Tyler's creator, Marilyn Thornhill, frees him, but he transforms into his Hyde form and kills her instead.
Wednesday Season 2 Part 1: Explaining the shocking cliffhanger
After Fester sets all Willow Hill Outcasts free, Tyler transforms into his Hyde form. After killing his creator, the beast had his eyes on Wednesday. The final moments of Part 1 saw Hyde take hold of Wednesday and throw her off the three-story window at Willow Hill.
Wednesday lies on the ground with a thud, and the camera pans to her bloody and unconscious body, unclear if she will survive. Her lifeless body leaves the viewers with these parting words:
"I’ve always dreamed of looking death in the face. But in my final moments, all I can hear is my mother's words ringing in my ears. Maybe I have made everything worse. Much worse."
While our protagonist's fate hangs in the air, Hyde is free and runs into the darkness, hinting at more danger for Nevermore in Part 2.
Wednesday Season 2 Part 2 will arrive on Netflix on September 3, 2025.
