The Addams Family serves as the inspiration for the spooky mystery comedy series Wednesday, a series created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. Tim Burton was the director of four of the first season's episodes. The lead of the series is played by Jenna Ortega.
The series debuted on Netflix on November 23, 2022 and was well-reviewed, especially for Ortega's performance. The second season is all set to air in two installments in August and September 2025.
Wednesday Season 2 will disclose Pugsley Addams' close connection to the main villain, signaling a significant shift in his role. Pugsley's new electric abilities are tied directly to the enemy, putting him at the center of the mystery. This link offers emotional depth, tests Wednesday's protective instincts, and reinforces the sibling dynamic throughout the season.
As revealed by Isaac Ordonez who plays Pugsley:
"My powers and the main villain for this season are connected. Pugsley has a very deep connection with the main villain. There's something I do with my powers [that connects us], I think I can say that. They really dive into their connection and their story together. I definitely have quite a bit of screen time with Eugene this season, and then one other new character that we get to see."
More about Wednesday and Pugsley
A significant subplot in Wednesday's second season will center on Pugsley Addams and his unexpected link to the new villain. Isaac Ordonez, who portrays Pugsley, recently stated in an interview with ScreenRant that his character's powers—specifically, electrokinesis, or the ability to produce electricity—are directly related to the antagonist.
This signals a departure from Pugsley's previous, more comic and smaller role as a pivotal protagonist in the forthcoming season's mystery and in the Season 2 teaser, Pugsley's abilities were initially hinted at. This mainly provided a fresh perspective on the Addams family dynamic.
He was seen as eccentric and humorous in earlier versions, but season 2 will present him as more emotionally nuanced character who is essential to the story. Wednesday stepped in as Pugsley's tenacious protector during Season 1, which depicted Pugsley as sensitive and frequently in need of defense from bullies. His position is greatly expanded in Season 2, and his newly acquired abilities become a pivotal storyline component.
Pugsley's skills are not only unique, but also related to the primary antagonist's ascension. This link presents fresh emotional and narrative hurdles for Wednesday Addams. Known for her brains and protective instincts, she will now be called upon to solve a mystery that centers on her brother, pushing her to mix logic with intense emotional worry.
It is anticipated that Pugsley's character will develop in complexity and significance during the season. His abilities will now actively impact the plot and character interactions rather than being a supporting aspect and his changing role deepens the story.
This is done by examining issues like self-discovery, familial loyalty, and the conflict between light and dark. Season 2 is expected to be more dramatic and character-driven, with more emotional stakes and a more robust sibling relationship.
Cast of Wednesday Season 2
Season 2 will contain a mix of returning and new cast members. Jenna Ortega will reprise her role as Wednesday Addams, with Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, and Isaac Ordonez, whose character Pugsley will have a greater role.
Several characters from Season 1 will return, including Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) and Lurch (George Burcea). New cast members are also joining the show. These are Evie Templeton, Steve Buscemi, and Billie Piper.
Additionally, a new member of the Addams family will be revealed. Season two will premiere on Netflix in August and September 2025.
