What’s the real reason behind Tyler’s anger in Wednesday Season 2?

If you watched the first season of the series, you would have seen how Tyler gets imprisoned for his actions. At first, Tyler appears to be Wednesday’s love interest. However, that’s all a facade. His anger toward Wednesday, which worsens in Wednesday Season 2, comes from a deep-rooted hatred of the outcasts and Nevermore Academy.

His mother was a Hyde. However, Nevermore, which is the main institution for outcasts, did not give her a place to learn more about herself or how to control herself. This eventually led to her death. Tyler blames Nevermore and Wednesday, who also got easy access to Nevermore because she is an outcast. In the second episode of Wednesday Season 2, we see Wednesday visit Tyler. When she sees Tyler locked up, she said,

“Thornhill chose you to be her murderous marionette, not just because she saw some Hyde hibernating inside you, but because she saw the real you. An expendable nobody. A feeble-minded schoolyard bully with nothing to offer to the world except for subpar barista skills. Your fleeting moment of notoriety will fade quicker than your generic looks. Thinking of you rotting away in this cell in anonymous mediocrity, that… is the best revenge. I don’t need to visit again. I already take up enough space in your twisted head.”

Her words further fueled Tyler’s anger. It’s undeniable that Thornhill used Tyler for her own benefit. She exploited his emotional vulnerability. She faces the consequences of her actions shortly after when Tyler coldly kills her with his sharp claws.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hunter Doohan, who plays the role of Tyler in both seasons, confirms Tyler’s anger towards Wednesday, saying,

“I think always playing her. Maybe there's an attraction there and, he probably wouldn't admit it, but a respect for her, but he's filled with so much anger and hatred toward her and her family and all of Nevermore because of what happened to his mom. She was a Hyde and she died because Nevermore doesn't accept them and won't teach them how to control their powers, so I think Tyler's filled with a lot of rage and that's how he justifies his murdering spree.”

At the end of Wednesday Season 2, part 1, we see Tyler finally face off with Wednesday. After he escapes his enclosure and kills Thornhill, Wednesday appears in front of him. He shoves Wednesday out of the facility's window. Wednesday falls, unconscious, and is covered in blood. The ending leaves us questioning what her future might be. Tyler escapes, which also raises questions about his next move now that he has no one to control him and his father is dead.

This season of Wednesday truly elevates the thrill and suspense, keeping fans eagerly anticipation for the next installment. The next part of Wednesday season 2 will be released on September 3, 2025.
