Netflix’s Wednesday blends teenage angst, supernatural mystery, and Addams Family lore into a modern story centered on Wednesday Addams at Nevermore Academy. Played by Jenna Ortega, the titular character investigates murders, uncovers secrets about her family’s past, and discovers new parts of herself.
One of the show’s key twists is the introduction of Goody Addams, a 1600s ancestor who looks just like her and holds vital knowledge that changes everything Wednesday thought she knew.
Goody isn’t just background filler. She’s the founder of the Nightshade Society, a powerful witch, and the original link in the Addams psychic bloodline. Her role becomes essential as she appears in visions, guiding Wednesday through hidden threats in Jericho.
Goody’s story is tied to the brutal history of Joseph Crackstone, a genocidal pilgrim who murdered her mother and tried to erase outcasts from existence. She escaped, killed Crackstone, cursed his soul, and sealed him in a blood-locked coffin only her descendant could open.
That descendant is Wednesday. Goody appears at key moments in Season 1 to help her survive and fight back. She’s not a ghost haunting the past, she’s part of what allows Wednesday to shape the future. Her final act involves a powerful sacrifice that closes the loop on her own legacy.
Goody Addams: The ancestor who changed everything for Wednesday

Goody Addams lived in 1600s Jericho, Vermont, and was born into a family of outcasts with Mexican roots. She practiced witchcraft and had psychic abilities, including visions similar to the ones Wednesday experiences. She and her mother were targeted by Joseph Crackstone, a puritanical pilgrim who accused them of witchcraft.
He locked them in a meeting house along with other outcasts and set the building on fire. Goody escaped through a chimney hatch, but her mother died in the fire. That moment shaped everything she did next. She hunted Crackstone down, cut his face, cursed his soul, and sealed him inside a coffin with a magical blood lock. He could only return on a blood moon, and only a direct descendant could unlock the seal.
Goody didn’t stop with Crackstone’s death. She founded the Nightshade Society, a secret group that protected outcasts and worked for their equality with normies. The society existed in secret for centuries, eventually including members from Nevermore Academy.
Goody became known as a powerful figure among outcasts and witches, but her obsession with revenge isolated her. Morticia Addams later told Wednesday that Goody went too far and ultimately couldn’t save herself.
In the show, Goody appears to Wednesday through psychic visions and helps her piece together Jericho’s buried history. She doesn’t always show up when Wednesday wants her to, which frustrates her, but when it matters, Goody delivers key information.
She leads Wednesday to Laurel Gates’s mansion, provides knowledge about Crackstone’s resurrection, and ultimately saves her life. When Crackstone stabs Wednesday, Goody uses her spirit powers to heal the wound, but tells Wednesday it will be the last time they meet. Her healing comes at the cost of her own presence. With Crackstone’s final death, Goody’s unfinished business ends, and she moves on.
Visually, Goody looks like a version of Wednesday from the past. She wears pale blue dresses, corsets, and long skirts. Her hair is dirty blonde, and she wears it in long pigtails.

She’s shown holding a spellbook and a dagger in vision sequences. In one flashback, she uses the dagger to slash Crackstone’s face before cursing him. Goody also leaves behind a Book of Shadows containing necromantic spells, which later plays a role in his resurrection by Laurel Gates.
Her personality is serious and intense. She doesn’t show emotion easily, but her actions are driven by grief and rage. She loved her mother and carried that trauma with her for the rest of her life. She respected her lineage and saw her role as a protector of future outcasts.
Her relationship with Wednesday evolves across the season, from cold and distant to one built on trust. In the end, Goody gives up the last part of herself to make sure Wednesday survives. She isn’t just a past figure in the Addams line, she’s the reason Wednesday understands what she’s up against and what she stands for. Goody’s legacy is the foundation the story builds on.
