The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives cast member Mikayla Matthews has revealed shocking behind-the-scenes details about Demi Engemann's controversial proposal for the show's first season finale.

Speaking on The Viall Files podcast alongside fellow The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives cast member Jessi Ngatikaura, Matthews disclosed that Engemann suggested fabricating an affair storyline with Dakota Mortensen, who is Taylor Frankie Paul's baby daddy.

"Demi was like wanting to have a huge finale for season 1, and she was like, 'We can make up this whole thing that like I have an affair with Dakota,' Matthews explained.

She elaborated further:

Everyone was like, 'Oh, that's a weird thing to say,' until Taylor brought it up in the conversation and to me was like, 'Did everyone think that was weird?' and everyone's like, 'You know, yeah, kinda. That was a little bit weird'"

The Hulu reality series follows Mormon mom influencers whose lives unravel amid swinging scandals. This revelation sheds light on growing tensions within the #MomTok group and explains the current feuds surrounding Engemann in season two.

What exactly did The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Demi Engemman propose?

The bombshell revelation came during Matthews and Ngatikaura's appearance on Nick Viall's popular podcast. According to Matthews, Engemann approached the group with her outrageous finale idea during season one filming.

The proposed storyline would have portrayed Engemann as having an affair with Mortensen on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. This suggestion immediately raised eyebrows among the cast members, who found the idea troubling.

Host Nick Viall's wife, Natalie Joy Viall, expressed disbelief at the proposal.

"She was willing to have the world think that she had an affair with Dakota for television?" she questioned during the podcast interview.

Despite the red flags, the #MomTok group initially tried to maintain their friendship with Engemann. Matthews revealed they didn't immediately cut ties after the bizarre suggestion.

"We were getting closer to Demi, and then all of this started unraveling, and we still gave her the benefit of the doubt," Matthews shared.

Elaborating:

"It kind of just kept progressing, and so we weren't like immediately like, 'Okay, closed off.' It just happened gradually, so it was sad for sure to see that she was willing to do all the things that she did."

This gradual deterioration helps explain the current dynamics The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives viewers see in season two.

The revelation provides context for the ongoing tensions between Engemann and most of the cast. Nearly all #MomTok members, except Whitney Leavitt, now have conflicts with Engemann.

These behind-the-scenes details help fans understand how relationships within the group shifted over time. What started as questionable judgment evolved into more serious issues that fractured friendships.

What does this mean for the show?

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives continues to deliver drama in its second season, now streaming on Hulu and Disney+. The series originally gained attention by following Mormon mom influencers caught in swinging scandals that made international headlines.

These podcast revelations show how reality TV production can blur the lines between authentic storytelling and manufactured drama. Engemann's willingness to fabricate major storylines raises questions about what viewers can trust on screen.

Both The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives remain available for streaming, giving fans the chance to watch these complicated relationships unfold with a new understanding of what happened behind the cameras.
