Fox officially canceled its animated comedy series The Great North after 5 seasons.
It was confirmed by the network in early October 2025, ending a run that had started in January 2021. The final episode was released on September 14, 2025.
The Great North followed Beef Tobin and his family through their life in the fictional town of Lone Moose, Alaska. It featured Nick Offerman, Jenny Slate, Will Forte, Dulcé Sloan, and Paul Rust, among others, in its voice cast. Critics praised the show as heartwarming, well-written, and a depiction of small-town family living.
Many fans are taking to social media to express their sadness over the cancellation, while others are expressing gratitude for the five seasons of emotional storytelling that made the show shine in the Fox Animation Domination block.
The Great North fans express disappointment over the show’s cancellation

Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network, was quoted as saying by Deadline:
“We’re so grateful for everything Wendy, Lizzie, Loren and the amazing cast and crew put into The Great North. It’s difficult to say goodbye, but we’re thankful for the five hilarious seasons The Great North brought to the iconic Animation Domination lineup.”
The news of the cancellation was not received well by viewers, who expressed disappointment on social media platforms, with one Reddit user saying:
“Well that's a shame.”
Another user added:
“I wasn't super interested when this came out but it grew on me after a while and I'm going to miss it.”
A user went on to explain:
“Same here. It was one of my favorites! I loved the setting and characters, it ranks up there with King of the Hill as one of my “long day, need something to relax to” shows. That and it reminded me a little of where I grew up. I’m glad it at least got five seasons, a lot of shows these days tend to get screwed by the network/streamer (Lookin’ at you, Netflix) after just one, two if they’re lucky.”
One user mentioned:
“Yeah, it was very Bob's Burger's like for me, in that it was "alright" when I first tried it, but it got way better by the second season. There was some fleshing out of characters that had to happen before things really clicked into place. Very sad to see it go.”
“Whaaaat. Why! It is so good and so wholesome. Im going to really miss this show man. The premise allowed for so many fun stories!”
Budget issues could be behind The Great North cancellation

In October 2025, Fox officially confirmed the cancellation. The show was notably not part of the May 2025 multi-season renewal deal made by Fox, which renewed hits such as The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Bob’s Burgers over several years.
In a public statement, Fox Television Network President Michael Thorn credited the creators and cast with helping the network achieve the target of Animation Domination, but did not cite a specific cause of cancellation.
The Great North premiered with good ratings according to the official figures, generating over 2 million viewers during its first episode. During Season 2, people continued watching the show; nevertheless, the season averaged about 202,000 per episode.
A slight drop was seen when Season 3 premiered in 2023, with an average of 163,000 viewers per episode. This decline was also observed in Season 4, with an average of 117,000 viewers a season. The last season experienced another drop as the average viewer per episode was 81,800.
Although there are no publicly available specific Live+7 day DVR ratings for The Great North, it is worth noting that the series was the least-watched scripted series in the last season.
Comparatively, the legacy series, such as The Simpsons, attracted more than 3.3 million viewers to the 36th season.
