One of the saddest moments in the history of Formula 1 is the death of Ayrton Senna, often considered the fastest F1 driver of all time. He won three world championships (1988, 1990, 1991), had 41 race victories and 80 podium finishes, and is also remembered for being a humanitarian.

It was on May 1, 1994, when the world lost Ayrton Senna after his car suddenly lost control and crashed at high speed into a concrete barrier called Tamburello.

Despite safety measures, the car crash caused severe head injuries to Senna who was immediately taken into emergency and later announced dead in a statement from Maggiore Hospital of Bologna.

Investigators revealed that a suspension rod pierced the racer's helmet when the car hit the concrete barrier, causing fatal head injuries.

As a result of the tragedy, crucial reforms were introduced like improved helmet designs and car safety features as the accident raised serious concerns about the safety standards in Formula 1.
