Alien: Earth is the newest science fiction horror series that has some horrifying alien species up its sleeve. The newest addition to this cosmic horror is Species 64. Not only does it look extremely creepy with its protruding eye and tentacles, but it also has some exceptionally strong abilities.

The new cast of Alien: Earth anchors the series and brings out an unprecedented storyline that is already the talk of the town. Apart from the Xenomorph, which is already scary, the addition of this new species adds a layer of horror to the storyline. Let’s explore all about it.

What is Alien: Earth’s Species 64?

Species 64 first appears on our screen in the second episode of Alien: Earth. The name of the creature is T. Ocellus, and it has the ability to take control of the body of its host. The process through which Species 64 takes over the body of its host is through the eyes.

Species 64 first attacks the eyes of its victims, after which it takes over the body's neurotransmissions. This helps the species take complete control over its victims. Its powers include tremendous strength. The tentacles can be used for locomotion. However, one of the distinct abilities of Species 64 is its capacity to solve problems with utmost precision.

This makes them extremely dangerous. This jellyfish-like species possesses the ability to wreak a whole new level of psychological and physical horror. Though Species 64 might not be as powerful as a Xenomorph, its strength definitely cannot be overlooked.

In an interview with ScreenRant, creator Noah Hawley discusses the introduction of the new alien species in Alien: Earth:

"And the idea is that in order to make you feel the feelings that you felt watching the first Alien movie, you need to have some kind of discovery at the lifecycle of these creatures and the xenomorph, which has this amazing four monsters in one value added voyage of discovery, you can never feel those feelings again with that creature. So we need to introduce these new creatures to get back to that feeling of genetic revulsion you felt every time it shifted and changed in some parasitic or predatory way.”

It cannot be denied that the new creatures are definitely creating the chaos and revulsion that they were supposed to.

Alien: Earth explores both the external threats and the internal struggles of the characters, especially while they are facing the creatures. The addition of creatures like Species 64 ensures that the disturbing feel that the franchise is known for, and loved for by the fans, remains.

The exploration of the true nature of humanity while facing unspeakable dangers truly brings out a distinct kind of horror. While discussing the creatures in the series in a recent press screening, Noah Hawley says,

“They’re in a zoo, basically, but they don’t stay in the zoo.” And every aspect of the creatures’ design “all goes to the ‘get into your nightmares’ part of it. Mostly, my hope is that people who watch the show will never do anything comfortably again. Like, 'Should I eat that? I should probably pick that piece of bread up. Look at what’s under it.'”

This chilling new chapter of the franchise definitely has a lot to offer. The show is available for streaming on Disney+.
