The destiny of Chishiya in Alice in Borderland is a question that has often been asked after Season 2. To answer it straight away: Chishiya does not die in Alice in Borderland. Though when Niragi has gone on a spate, he shoots him, he survives only to wake up in the real world afterward, alive but with no memory of the deadly games.

His survival is dramatic and agonizing! Chishiya is badly injured in season two and can't participate in the final Queen of Hearts fight. But when Borderland collapses and players can remain or come back, he chooses to come back. At last, he can be seen recuperating in a hospital, alive, proving that his adventure in Alice in Borderland is not going to end in death but in a second chance at life.

Chishiya’s personality and backstory

Since the very beginning of Alice in Borderland, Chishiya (portrayed by Nijirō Murakami) is an exception due to his calm, strategic, and detached nature. Chishiya, unlike Arisu, is more of a strategist, who prefers to be logical and observant and, in fact, does not seem to have any emotions when situations are tense. His ability is to study human beings and games, and not brute strength. This makes him a powerful player in the Borderland.

His history makes him more substantial. Before going into the Borderland, Chishiya was a doctor in a hospital system filled with corruption and nepotism. His disenchantment with institutional injustice accounts for why he gravitates towards thoughts of balance and rational discernment. Alice in Borderland employs this history to contextualize his belief system, demonstrating why he allows his mind and sense of justice to guide him when faced with the cruel games.

Key games by Chishiya in the second season

Season 2 of Alice in Borderland provides some of the most memorable scenes for Chishiya:

Jack of Hearts (Prison game): This is a psychological game in which the players have to depend on others to reveal their collar symbols. Chishiya is quick in his sight and manipulation of information flow, which makes him live when others die.

King of Diamonds: This is, perhaps, the most typical battle that Chishiya engages in, a game of wit that matches him with Kuzuryu, the King of Diamonds, in a court of law. The game makes one have to confront ideologies- whether all lives have equal value. The fact that Chishiya is ready to confront Kuzuryu demonstrates the depth of his personality, his intelligence, and the increasing level of morality.

Rampage by Niragi: Niragi goes on a rampage later, which leads to chaos after he starts shooting everyone. In this assault, Chishiya is shot and is in a critical condition. Although the scene does not set it as him intentionally winding himself around Usagi, the fact that he puts himself in danger demonstrates a change in his interaction with others, and he is a more selfless person than before.

Chishia's condition in the Finale

Due to his injuries, Chishiya is unable to join the final Queen of Hearts game, and Arisu and Usagi are left alone to confront Mira. Rather, he uses the last seconds of the games to be on the edge of death, lying down with Niragi and pondering the events as the commotion ensues.

At the end of the last game, the remaining players have an option to remain in the Borderland or go back to the real world. Chishiya chooses to return. Then he wakes up in a hospital in Tokyo, alive, but deprived of any recollection of the Borderland.

This conclusion establishes that he survived and physically recuperated following the disastrous meteor hit that brought about the almost-death experiences that led to the Borderland in the first instance.

Why Chishiya’s Story Stands Out in Alice in Borderland

Chishiya's arc stands out as a memorable one, as it combines the intellectual and the gradual change of the person. Initially, he seems to be nearly unemotional, and he takes the games as riddles to be broken. However, by the conclusion of Season 2, his readiness to make unorthodox choices during times of turmoil reveals that he can also be compassionate and be ready to sacrifice.

His work shows that even the most unemotional strategists can change when they are obliged to face death on numerous occasions.

Then what happened to Chishiya in Alice in Borderland? He was shot, seriously wounded, and missed the final game, but did not perish. Rather, he opted to leave the world of Borderland when the world was destroyed, waking up in a hospital very much alive, recovering, and without recollection of what he had suffered.

His journey is one of the most intriguing in the show, both displaying the genius of his intellect and the understated development of his personality.
