The Lazarus Project has been a wild ride, from infinite time loops to time travel, and it managed to keep us on our toes the whole time. The first season placed us on a never-ending three-week time loop as the characters tried to figure out what their reality looked like. The second season, however, introduced the concept of time travel, making things a tad bit more complicated.

It can be a little difficult to keep up with the characters, their future, and their past versions to understand their fates in The Lazarus Project. Especially George (played by Paapa Essiedu) has had one of the more complicated journeys throughout the two seasons of the show.

Keep reading to find out exactly what happened to George in The Lazarus Project.

Who is George in The Lazarus Project?

George is an app developer who has a genetic mutation that allows him to remember the time that has been turned back.

He seems to think something is wrong with him, forcing him to live a constant three-week loop where the agency is trying to prevent the world from ending, only to discover his mutational abilities. He is then appointed by the organization, which makes a special serum to give its recruits the ability that George naturally has.

However, George decides to betray the organization and engineer a global world war in order to force the organization to turn back time again so that his girlfriend Sarah, who died before the checkpoint, can be alive again. He then goes on to pin his crimes on Shiv, one of the agents in Lazarus. Sarah, however, decides to break up with George.

Nevertheless, just before the next checkpoint, George is approached by Shiv, who's carrying some message left behind by a former Lazarus agent who had been kidnapped. However, George thinks Shiv is there to kill him, so just before the checkpoint is hit, he shoots Shiv. Some anomalies because of the kidnapping cause the world to be stuck on a three-week time loop from the exact time when George shoots Shiv, leading to Shiv being shot every time the three-week loop restarts.

As the loop keeps playing time and again, George figures out a way to save Shiv after shooting him and deciphers the message, which reveals that Janet, the kidnapped agent, has been taken back in time to 2012.

George is fired from his position at The Lazarus Project

The second season picks up at the end of the first season, but everything is far more complicated this time around. George is forced to tell everything that has transpired to Wes, the leader of the project, who decides to fire George and instead keep Sarah, to whom George had given the serum. The team decides to track Janet back to 2012 and six scientists who were involved in the creation of a new time machine around the same time period Janet is being held captive. George is kept completely in the dark regarding all of this.

The team tries to locate the scientists, only to find themselves at multiple dead ends. These dead ends are, in fact, finding the scientists dead. Later, George rejoins the team. While the team tries to find Janet and the scientists, George discovers that Wes might be involved in a lot more than she's letting on.

Someone from the future wants to kill George in The Lazarus Project

While the others are trying to get help from one of the scientists they've managed to save, George is digging deeper into Wes. As everything is spinning into chaos at The Lazarus Project, George is approached by two people from the future, one who wants to kill him and another who wants to save him.

It takes multiple loops for Becky, Janet's daughter, to save George from Bryson, who wants to kill him. The rest of the team, however, has figured out a way to create a time travel machine with the help of the scientist and a manual left behind by someone, possibly Janet.

However, just as the team and George are on the plane, the pilot, The Dane, suddenly drops the plane, almost killing the unstrapped passengers, who will actually die if they were to die during the time-traveling.

The team ends up in 2018 because of a malfunction, and here George and Sarah find themselves questioning the meaning of their relationship. Future George and Sarah end up posing as their old selves, just to find out that they're both from the future. Later, they watch the old George and Sarah talking to each other and think about the idea of their relationship as destiny when Bryson shows up again and kills both Sarahs and Georges. Soon, Becky arrives, and instead of killing Bryson, she tries to convince him to work with them.

As the team works together to try and unravel the mysteries of Operation Midnight, which Wes is at the head of, George understands who Bryson is and decides to use both the younger and the elder Bryson to make Wes turn back time, but it is actually Sarah who manages to negotiate Samson's life for the Code Black.

The Lazarus Project Season 2 finale

As the past and the future reconcile to try and stop everything that has been happening so far, Sarah decides to stop playing the game of mice and cat and instead take over. As we find at the end, she has actually managed to make it to the top and now sits where Wes used to sit.

George manages to make it back to 2024 with Becky, while The Dane helps fly him and the two Beckys back safely, albeit after a host of casualties left behind in their wake.

In the final few seconds of The Lazarus Project, George discovers that the woman he was in love with is not the same one he finds in 2024.
