Netflix's animated steampunk series, Arcane, which is based on the League of Legends characters, finally ended with Season 2, Part 3.
It was already announced that the show would end in Season 2, and fans were excited to see which characters would survive.
While there were some bittersweet sacrifices like Jinx, fans were reasonably happy with Maddie's fate in the finale. After she tries to kill Caitlyn in her final act of betrayal, her bullet ricochets, and Maddie dies in Arcane Season 2.
Fans branded Maddie's death karmic, as she died from the same bullet which was meant for Caitlyn, her former lover.
When she first featured in Season 2, Maddie was loyal to Piltover. However, her relationship with Caitlyn and their subsequent breakup because of Caitlyn and Vi's relationship changed her priorities in the animated series.
It turns out that she was working with Ambessa all this time, and taking out Caitlyn would have been her final act of betrayal towards her team and Piltover.

What happened to Maddie in Arcane Season 2?
The finale depicted the ultimate battle between Piltover's army, and Vi, Caitlyn, Jayce, and Mel and Ambessa's army. Jayce asks the others to hold off the enemy's soldiers so that he can shut the Hexgate before Viktor reaches it.
Even with their best efforts, Viktor was already by the Hexgate, and with the war in full swing, Caitlyn gets hit over the head. When she wakes up, she sees every one of her team members either killed or being held at gunpoint.
Who is the person holding them at gunpoint? Its Maddie! Turns out, she had no problem pulling up a gun to her former lover's head.
As Maddie fires her gun toward Caitlyn in the finale, Mel places a magical forcefield in front of her, bouncing off the bullet in Maddie's direction. The bullet ricochets and kills Maddie.
Arcane finally kills Maddie, proving karma is real. The bullet she fired (meant for Caitlyn) kills her. This was Maddie's ultimate act of betrayal towards Caitlyn.
What is next for Arcane's surviving characters?
While Maddie and many other characters die, some survive the attack.
While it was established that Arcane would end with Season 2, this is not the end for League of Legends characters. The show still has many opportunities for spin-offs, focusing on many characters.
While Jinx's sacrifice finished the show, other characters like Mel, Vi, and Caitlyn could have their own stories set up. One obvious arc that Arcane hinted at in the final episode features Caitlyn and Vi, who finally became a couple.

Another possible spin-off centered around Mel and the story of Noxus. Her connection with Black Rose and her subsequent betrayal can be further explored. She used her powers to stop Ambessa's attack on Piltover, and she could be the next ruler who would take up her mother's fight against Black Rose.
