Prison Break premiered in 2005 and is regarded as one of the cult classic crime dramas of all time. It narrates the story of how Michael Scofield, played by Wentworth Miller, creates an elaborate plan to rescue his brother, Lincoln, who had been sent to prison after being wrongfully incarcerated for murder.
Season 1 showed Michael successfully escaping the prison with his brother and several other inmates. However, the difficulties of the escapees do not end, as in Season 2 of Prison Break, a new character, Alexander Mahone (William Fichtner), joins the series. He is introduced as a drug-addicted FBI Agent, who is the perfect nemesis of Michael, as he is as smart as him. It was not just his quick thinking but also the various complex situations that Mahone had survived, which make him one of the most complex characters in the series.
Agent Mahone began to pursue the escapees due to being blackmailed by the Company, threatening to destroy his family. Throughout the three seasons that he appeared, he killed, he struggled with his addiction, and survived many life-threatening situations, but lost his son, even went to prison, and at last sided with the brothers and helped Michael to sabotage the Company.
The last time he appeared in the series, Mahone was in a better place and moving on with his life.
More on this in our story.
Prison Break: Alexander Mahone survives an attempt on his life
Mahone was first introduced in Season 2 of Prison Break, where he was tasked with catching the eight escapees. He was quick to learn that Michael was the brain behind the escape from the prison, and tried to track him down.
However, his story becomes more complicated as he begins killing the escapees whom he captures, resulting in his questioning by his superiors. It is later revealed that he has been forced to work for the Company by Paul Kellerman.
However, even after he agrees to do what the Company orders him, he still becomes a victim of Kellerman, who later joins Michael and Lincoln and tries to kill Mahone. After surviving the attack, Mahone tries to leave the task of catching the escapees.
But, due to his deep love for his family and to protect them, he is again forced to return to his work after Agent Kim’s men stage a car accident of his son, Cameron.
Prison Break: Mahone joins hands with Michael
At the end of Season 2 of Prison Break, Mahone is seen struggling with his drug addiction and his obsession with capturing and killing the escapees. He even traps Lincoln and Michael. However, his plan is sabotaged when the boat and the money he asked Michael to give to him become the reason for his arrest, when it is found to have drugs in it, planted by Michael.
In Prison Break Season 3, Mahone tries to convince Michael to join him in the escape that he was planning. But Michael refuses to join hands with him as he had killed his father.
Mahone’s struggles increased in prison due to his drug withdrawals, and also a failed testimony due to his condition. However, over the season, he convinced Michael to make him a part of his plan and successfully escaped the Sona prison.
Prison Break: Mahone helps bring down the Company
Throughout the three seasons of Prison Break in which Mahone appeared, he had to go through various struggles of his own, which entangled him in crimes that he wouldn’t have committed. The guilt of killing Oscar Shales started his spiral into committing more crimes, and later, to also protect his own family from the threats arising due to his activities.
However, he still lost his son Cameron, who was murdered in Season 4 of Prison Break. While asking Agent Lang to find out about his son’s killer, he joins Michael and the others to find out the cards called Scylla, which have all the information about the Company’s operations and Agents.
While going through and surviving numerous life-threatening situations, Michael and the gang survive after Kellerman receives the Scylla at the end. At the end of Season 4, Mahone is shown to be in a relationship with Agent Lang. While Mahone did not appear in Season 5 of the series, he did appear in the movie.
