Season 3 of the South Korean survival thriller Squid Game was released on June 27, 2025, and it is already making waves. Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the season, which has six episodes, stars Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, and Wi Ha-joon. While In-ho, the Front Man, hosts new VIPs, Seong Gi-hun makes a comeback to take on even riskier games.

Unaware that there is a traitor among them, Jun-ho keeps looking for the island. The season marks a dramatic conclusion to the series with its high-stakes survival, emotional moments, violence, and tension. It explores themes of sacrifice, treachery, and trust.

Se-mi's sad demise in Season 2 haunts Min-su during Squid Game's Season 3. Although she does not return physically, her memory emerges in his hallucinations, which lead to emotional breakdowns and eventually affect his terrible ending in the final game.

Despite not playing a major role in Squid Game Season 3, Se-mi is present throughout the narrative, especially in Park Min-su's (also known as Player 125) emotional journey. Min-su's actions and mental condition in Season 3 are still impacted by her horrific death in Season 2.

Se-mi was a brave and kind person who made her debut as Player 380 in Season 2. Unlike other players in the game, she was gentle and dedicated, especially to Min-su, who was often singled out by more powerful and combative competitors.

When others wrote him off as weak or unhelpful, Se-mi recognized his potential and repeatedly spoke up for him. Hence, in a game, particularly, where survival instincts and treachery frequently take center stage, her strong moral compass makes her stand out.

Unfortunately, during a dorm ambush in Squid Game Season 2, Se-mi's destiny took a terrible turn. As per the storyline, Min-su made a last-ditch effort to stop Nam-gyu from attacking and killing her during a chaotic moment. Min-su was heartbroken by the tragedy and carried the guilt of failing to protect her and witnessing her death.

This emotional burden becomes critical to Min-su's arc in Season 3. Although Se-mi is no longer alive, she constantly appears in Min-su's hallucinations, which are induced by extreme stress, trauma, and withdrawal from performance.

Min-su interprets Se-mi's absence/presence as both loss and moral consciousness. At times, he views her as a guiding force, while during moments, her memory exacerbates his feelings of regret and impotence. This emotional turmoil has an impact on his confidence and actions, especially as the game moves toward its finish.

Ultimately, Min-su's mental health in Squid Game deteriorates to the point that he is unable to distinguish between hallucinations and reality. Despite not being physically present during the events of Season 3, Se-mi's character has a big emotional impact. It shapes Min-su's path and emphasizes the enduring effects of grief in such a harsh setting.
