Character arc of Abby Stevens in From

However, her valiant nature begins to crumble after she is stuck in the town. Initially, when Abby and her family arrived in the town and witnessed the misery of the people there, she was confused. However, slowly she understood the danger the town and the monsters posed to the people. While she arrived, the townspeople had no other way to escape the monsters but to hide. They did not have the Talismans to protect them.

After the townspeople tried to make Abby understand the dangers of the town, she began to have a mental breakdown. However, during this time, Boyd was not near her to help her through. She had to handle the situation on her own, which further escalated things. Instead of accepting the danger and understanding the people’s words, she went into denial.

She refused to believe the people and started to believe that she was in a nightmare. In this state of disarray, she began to use her gun and shoot the townspeople. Boyd arrived on the scene and took the tragic decision to shoot and kill his wife.

He does it in order to save the other innocent people. However, the impact it left on Ellis when he saw that his father had killed his own mother completely changed their dynamic.

Abby’s mental breakdown and denial depicted the dangers the town posed to the people who got trapped. Just like her, many other characters also went through the same level of denial, failing to understand the danger of the situation.

This can especially be seen in season 2 when the bus full of people arrived in the town and refused to pay any heed to the warnings of the people there. Though Abby’s presence in From is not prolonged, her death becomes the pivotal point in the series. The trauma that Boyd felt after killing his loving wife changed him. It created a deep sense of guilt and sorrow, which crushed him from the inside.

Though she dies in the first season of From, we see her ghost form in the second season. Despite her limited screen time, she served as a powerful symbol. She depicted the destructive nature of the town.

The other characters saw a ray of hope after Boyd and his family's arrival. However, the town used Abby to break the spirit of the other characters. The townspeople were left with no hope of survival.
