Pick any character from NBC's hit sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and I'll give you reasons why they are iconic. From memes to GIFs, Brooklyn Nine-Nine characters are popular among those who haven't watched the series. Nicole Byer's Trudy Judy, or Doug Judy's sister, is one of them. She might not be a fan favorite, but let's be honest, her appearances were iconic. She's a con artist and a car thief just like her elder brother, and even adopts some of his signature moves. A true copycat Pontiac Bandit indeed!

Her character showed how Judy's family viewed crime not as violence but as business. Trudy had been a student, then an Internet scammer, before eventually dropping out of nursing school and becoming a con artist. Once she found her brother's old notebooks, she took it a step further and reinvented herself as the copycat Pontiac Bandit, stealing cars like Doug.

Trudy's story did not unfold in a linear rise or fall. It moves through betrayals, alliances, and last-second escapes, closing fate in line with Judy's family tradition, freedom, improvisation, and zero interest in jail time.

Trudy Judy was introduced in Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 5 titled "A Tale of Two Bandits." She arrived at Doug Judy's funeral and immediately tricked Jake by pretending to know him from a fictional architectural firm. It took only a few scenes for Jake and Terry to catch her stealing cars. That moment revealed her identity as the mysterious copycat Pontiac Bandit. Doug struck a deal with D.A. and asked Trudy to cooperate in a sting operation targeting arms dealer Stefano Lucas.

Trudy played along until the end, then pulled a classic Judy turn. She betrayed Doug, Jake, and Terry, fled with her partner Dallas, and told her brother over the phone that she had boosted cars too often to ever let herself go to prison. For Trudy, the key rule was simple: run before the cuffs close.

Some time passed before the precinct heard from her again. Trudy resurfaced in Miami in Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 7's The Takeback. She had been caught, sent to prison, and released early for good behaviour. Doug's bachelor party forced Jake into an undercover role among Doug's criminal friends. Trudy almost exposed Jake by calling him a narc, which pushed Doug to negotiate with her.

When Doug's friends stole $10 million in diamonds, Trudy's shifted loyalties again. She joined Jake, Doug, and the crew to put the diamonds back where they belonged before the precinct arrived. After Jake called SWAT and secured the arrests, Trudy and Doug refused to take him on their private jet, though Doug later admitted he wanted Jake to bust his friends so he wouldn't have to uninvite them from the wedding.

Her last appearance came in Season 8's PB & J. Doug Judy was being transported to prison, and Trudy arrived at the precinct to bait Jake into being the escort. The plan worked, Doug escaped with Trudy's help, but there was a complication; she hired new criminals off Craigslist instead of Doug's original crew. The Craigslist gang attempted to kill Jake, forcing Doug to intervene and protect him. Trudy then drove away in a getaway vehicle, leaving everyone behind, avoiding arrest once more.

That final escape represents Trudy's fate. She remains on the run, free from charges and loyal only to her own survival.
